December 11, 2015:

AN OKAY DAY IS OKAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and therefore I must write these here notes in a hurry because I know the several dear readers cannot sleep until they’ve read the notes. I know I’m one of them. So, let me just say that yesterday was a perfectly okay day. I got almost eight hours of sleep, the helper came by to get some stuff, and then I had a young gal over to sing for me. We worked for a while on the two songs she did, and I always enjoy that process. It was fun.

Then I went and had a cup of soup and a chicken salad sandwich that was not quite as good as usual. Then I picked up no packages, then came home. I’d had an interesting dream just prior to awakening, and I made a bunch of notes about it – I’m thinking it might make an interesting book if I can figure out an interesting plot to go along with the interesting concept, which involves time travel, as do a lot of my dreams. I’ll keep making notes about it and see how I feel. Then I made some recordings of the epic song for the LA show so we can get that chart done. I’m still on the prowl for a musical director for the show and have reached out to a few folks. There were some good song suggestions yesterday so I put those on a list along with a few of my own. I thought having a ten-year-old do The Worst Pies in London might be fun. We had a bit of an annoyance in the early afternoon, but I have someone else dealing with it so I just wiped it from my mind. I got a little residual for The Faculty – they’re pretty small now, but they buy a few meals. I also had a long session with the Sirius radio people – I’ve signed a deal with them to handle our stuff for their stations, but it requires a lot of what they call metadata, so I have to get all that stuff to them and needed them to talk me through it, which they were nice enough to do.

Then I had a nice visit with our very own Mr. Nick Redman. After that, I did some work on the computer, and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture entitled Legend, a new motion picture about those bad, bad boys, the Krays, who were indeed legendary gangsters in the 1960s. I’ve had the screener for two weeks and haven’t wanted to watch it, but I finally did. Certainly it’s not a great movie by any stretch, but I enjoyed some of it – some of the humor is dark and funny, but it just kind of meanders along and you don’t really ever know too much about Reggie and Ronnie Kray. It’s very violent at times, too. The script by Brian Helgeland is part of the problem – it has weird narration that I’m not sure was necessary, especially late in the film for reasons you’ll understand if you see it. He’s also not much of a director, so the pacing is frequently off. But despite all that, Tom Hardy, who plays both of the Krays, is truly amazing, just a great performance. Some of his Ronnie Kray is very difficult to understand, but it’s really like watching two completely different actors. The rest of the cast is fine and it looks okay. Again, some enjoyable stuff and if you don’t know anything about the Krays, you might enjoy this.

After that, I watched the first thirty minutes of Woody Allen’s Shadows and Fog on the new Twilight Time Blu and Ray. I’ll finish it up before I comment – I’ve only seen it once before and I really didn’t like it then. But some of the opening scene made me laugh out loud, so maybe I’ll enjoy the rest of it more than I did the first time around.

I spent the rest of the evening working at the piano, trying to finish a lyric for a new song for the LA show.

Today, I won’t be taking the motor car in because they’re too busy. So, I’ll eat, hopefully pick up some packages, choose songs, finish casting, and then I’m attending the opening night of a show at the Group Rep Theater, produced by our very own Doug Haverty.

Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye is here in the morning (it seems like she was JUST here – maybe she was – I can’t remember anymore – I’ll check last week’s notes), so I’ll do errands and whatnot, and then I’m dining at the Gardenia and seeing Sharon McNight. Sunday I’m not sure what the HELL is happening, but hopefully I can just relax.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all do the Hora or the frug, for today is the birthday of our very own dear reader Ginny.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader Ginny.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER GINNY!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, eat, hopefully pick up packages, choose songs, cast, and then attend an opening night. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, have no idea. Blu and Ray, Shadows and Fog and the other new Twilight Time releases. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, knowing that sometimes an okay day is okay.
