January 3, 2016:

DISCOMBOBULATED ON A SATURDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I must write these here notes in a hurry for I am more than tired – tired-plus to be exact. The reasons for this tiredness are simple. Last night I did not fall asleep until almost six in the morning, due to another bout of the itchy lower legs. I haven’t had a problem with that for the past month or so, but last night it was unbearable. So, I just played on the iPad for most of that time and finally fell asleep. I’d set the alarm for eleven but forgot to leave it on the clock, which you have to do on the iPad. Therefore the alarm didn’t work and I didn’t wake up until noon – six hours of sleep. Once up, I had to get coherent, and I had a lot of e-mails to answer. Once that was done, I felt I was coherent enough to futz and finesse my first day’s writing. I did a lot of smoothing out, made a few additions, cut a few things, but was pretty happy with it overall. That took about an hour. Then I wrote about a half a page of new material. I must tell you that I was and am totally confused about what day this is. Having New Year’s Day on a Friday is just weird and I am all discombobulated because of it. Yesterday did not feel like a Saturday, that’s all I can tell you.

After that, I went and picked up one package, which contained the newly beautified Welcome to My World script, which I have to say looks really nice. Then I went and had a bacon and cheese omelet, a bagel, and instead of the breakfast potatoes I had a few fries. Then I came home and buckled down, Winsocki, and wrote more new pages. I wrote about seven, and then took a break and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a short documentary on the Flix of Net called India’s Daughter, about an infamous 2012 rape/murder of a young woman. India’s male attitudes towards women is shameful and this documentary is just shocking at times in that regard, when you’re listening to one of the convicted men, and his lawyers. But this case caused worldwide attention, and there were riots the following day – perhaps the women of India need to finally let the males there know that we’re living in a little century called the twenty-first century. I also dozed off for about an hour. Then I started to watch some independent shot on digital cheapie called Queen of Everything. It stars Elisabeth Moss, who I really like, but it’s pretty bad and I shut it off.

Then I wrote some more. I think I ended up doing about fourteen or fifteen pages. I finished what turned into a long chapter (I thought this was going to be a short chapter book, but the book is, as usually happens, taking on a life of its own), and after I took a shower, I began a new chapter. I’m having quite a lot of fun as I choose the locations for this book, and that’s all I’m saying about THAT.

I never really had anything more to eat, other than a candy bar and a couple of pieces of red licorice.

Today, I will be up by eleven at the latest and I’ll try to do my seven to ten pages, but if I’m feeling my oats I’ll just keep mushing on. What I may do is print out whatever I have towards the end of the day and run them over to Muse Margaret. Because this is something different I want to make sure she likes the way it’s going before I get too far into it. I also found a series on Netflix to watch – it’s with Elisabeth Moss and is called Top of the Lake, and I like the director, Jane Campion, and it’s a crime drama, so it sounds right up my alley. So, it will be writing, watching, writing, and watching, with a brief excursion for eating.

Tomorrow I have to go early to the SAG pension office that’s not too far from here and give them my paperwork and have them help me finish filling out what didn’t make sense to me. I think I’m still on track to start on February 1. The rest of that day and the rest of the week will be writing, making a show order, writing the commentary, writing, meetings and meals, hopefully a few miracles which are desperately needed in the early part of the week, and writing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, futz and finesse yesterday’s writing, write new pages, eat, watch a series on Netflix, and do more writing. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping that Sunday feels like a Sunday so I won’t have to be discombobulated as I was on Saturday.
