DON’T MESS WITH MR. IN-BETWEEN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am happy this week is, at long last, over. It has been a wonderful week in terms of writing and rehearsing, but for other reasons it has been a terrible week, but I will continue to try to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative and I’ll try not to mess with Mr. In-Between. I have felt great elation during the writing process, which I began two short weeks ago, and great elation and fun with the rehearsal process, even though several of our young people are fighting illness. The problematic part can go take a flying leap into the black hole.

Yesterday, I actually got a little over eight hours of sleep. I got right up at ten, answered e-mails, nuked the one e-mail having to do with the problematic stuff, nuked it unread as I said I would, as it would not have said anything that hasn’t already been said, and then I began futzing and finessing, of which there was quite a bit to do. I smoothed out things, I cut a couple of sentences and I added about two-thirds of a page. By the time I finished, I had to go get something to eat – I had a cup of chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich with no fries or onion rings. That really hit the spot. Then I came home and began writing new pages. I was in a new section so it was slow going at first, but just prior to rehearsal starting I’d written five new pages.

Then we had our second Kritzerland rehearsal. Jenna Lea Rosen was too sick to attend – hopefully all the rest she’s gotten this week will result in her being better for the stumble-through. Otherwise, rehearsal was really fun and those who were still getting over their maladies sang through them just fine. I gave more detailed notes, I did a little bit more staging, and the kids are all delightful. The rehearsal was quite long – four hours in all. Happily, I’m told we’re about eight seats away from being sold out. Once that was finished, I went and got a couple of snacks and went back to writing. Over the course of the next three hours I did manage to write fourteen pages.

Today will be an all writing day and evening, save for one brief meeting in the afternoon, to meet and hear a singer. I will pass the two hundred-page mark, and yesterday I passed the 40,000 word mark. So, I believe I’ll be down to the final sixty pages or so. I’ll eat at some point, and since I haven’t been to the mail place in three days, hopefully there’ll be something there for me.

Tomorrow I’ll write most of the day, then we have our stumble-through, after which some of us may go grab a bite to eat. Sunday I’ll print out the new pages, Xerox them and get them to Muse Margaret. It’s doubtful I’ll get more than a page or two written before I have to leave for sound check, but the show is earlier and I’ll be home by eight at the latest and can at least write seven or eight pages from then to the end of the evening. Then next week I will be in the final throes of finishing the book and that’s where all my focus and concentration will be.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, eat, hopefully pick up packages, write, have a brief meeting, write and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, some new soundtrack CDs someone brought me yesterday. Blu and Ray, nothing – no time. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, remembering to accentuate the positive and to not mess with Mr. In-Between.
