IT’S SUPER LATE, IT’S SUPER TIRED, IT’S SUPER NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is super late and I am super tired so I’m not sure how super these here notes will be but I will super try to make them interesting on some level, perhaps level three. Why am I writing these here notes so very late in the evening? Well, I’ll tell you why, because why should I withhold such information from you dear readers? It so happens I left the home environment around ten-thirty and went to the home environment of Doug Haverty to have a little nosh and see the final mock-up of the cover. I posted a not finalized version yesterday and was happy to see that everyone liked it – only one thing has changed and it’s for the better. Muse Margaret still doesn’t love the title font, but I spent considerable time looking at about 200 other fonts and none seemed as right as what Doug used. But I also can’t abuse his time and he’s spent a whole lot of hours on this, doing revisions of all kinds, so I think even though it may not be optimal for her, this is going to be it. For me, the cover sells what the book is about – I’m not sure how we’d make it funny or comical. The original idea was to have a faux movie poster from one of Patrick Bronstein’s 50s horror movies, but that idea proved unwieldy, although we’re using elements of it for the back cover. There was no real way to sell the title of the book on a poster and it ended up, to me at least, looking more like a pulp paperback cover than a movie poster and even had it looked exactly like a movie poster I’m still not sure it would have worked well. Muse Margaret actually loved my second idea, which is what the cover of the book became but she just doesn’t think the font is Patrick enough. It’s certainly what someone like him would have used – BIG – but I think to try and find something bigger and/or comical might not have verisimilitude, which the current version does have. The change from what I posted yesterday was at Margaret’s suggestion – the guy in the audience. The original version had nobody in the audience, but I thought it would be fun if there was one person – the person who’s writing the book about Mr. Bronstein. But the first person we put in there just didn’t have the right “look” even though we were only seeing the back of his head. The new person is much better for the book. I’ll post the final version tomorrow.

A lot of yesterday was spent dealing with that cover. Other than that, I got a bit over eight hours of sleep, thought I’d escaped any annoying e-mails, only to have one arrive soon after I woke up – I nuked it instantly and will respond on Monday. I also had an idea for one tiny addition to the book, but I never got to discuss it with Muse Margaret yesterday, so hopefully this morning I will – and I actually wrote it so I can read it to her. It really doesn’t matter one way or the other if it’s in it, but it does solve a little problem if I use it – if not, it’s so little a problem that it just doesn’t matter because I’m the only one who’ll know the little problem even exists. At some point I went and had a cup of clam chowder and a turkey sandwich.

I really was feeling antsy in the evening and not in the mood to watch anything. So, I just did stuff on the computer, and then went to Doug’s. His ever-lovin’ Dorathy had made beef stroganoff, so they warmed some up for me and that was my evening snack.

Today, I’ll talk to Muse Margaret and read her the new paragraph and see what she thinks, and send her the final two choices for the front cover – they’re exactly the same but one is slightly brighter than the other. I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up packages, and I’ll probably watch some motion pictures. I’ll leave it to you dear readers to tell me all about the SAG Awards because I shan’t be watching them.

Tomorrow will be more of the same, and I’ll continue trying to cast the Kritzerland show. I also have to attempt to get a big miracle happening because it is just very necessary around these here parts and I’m kind of out of time. Send lots of excellent vibes and xylophones for the big miracle to arrive. Next week is very busy with book stuff, casting, making final song choices and hopefully staying out of harm’s way.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, talk to Muse Margaret, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: If you happen to have a font idea that’s perhaps more Patrick Bronstein-esque but that has verisimilitude, please post it and link to where you found it. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping that the fact that it’s super late and I’m super tired didn’t preclude me from writing Super Notes.
