A SHORT WALK OFF A LONG PIER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have literally been around nothing but sick people for a week now and I am fighting the good fight, trying to not get sick. I’m fine so far, but I’m sure it could go either way. I’ll just continue my routine of Sambucol and Airborne and hope for the best. That is the health report. The weather report is summer. Some El Nino we had. These weather forecasters should be put out to pasture. It doesn’t help when you’re getting three to five hours of sleep a night, something I hope to remedy soon. What the HELL am I talking about? Who cares about any of this. This is the most boring notes opening paragraph in a ‘coon’s age. This already put me to sleep five times and it’s a short paragraph. I feel this paragraph should take a short walk off a long pier. No, that can’t be right. I feel this paragraph should take a long walk off a short pier. I feel I should take a short walk off this paragraph.

There, finally, another paragraph. In this paragraph I shall talk about my day yesterday. I was up by eight-thirty, and she of the Evil Eye came and I went and had an omelet and a bagel. I picked up no packages and then I came home. I immediately buckled down, Winsocki and wrote a third of the commentary.   Then I did some work at the piano on both of the new songs I’m trying to finish. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I finished the final two episodes of The Jinx, the documentary about Robert Durst. The end of the final episode is a real edge of seat affair, and the very end of it was really chilling. And because of the film, the murder case in which he’s a suspect in LA has been reopened. He’s currently in jail for possession of a firearm, which he was not allowed to have. He has the priciest lawyers around, and you see how good they are at one of his trials, in which Mr. Durst is found innocent. It’s a compelling story and well worth watching.

After that, I finished more of the commentary and only have two things left, although we added another cast member yesterday, the wonderful Barbara Minkus, so she’ll be doing two numbers and I’ll have to write up that commentary as soon as we lock them down. I sent out my eBlast for the Kritzerland show, saw the packaging for our next release and had two minor things fixed so that can go in on Monday morning, took a shower, did more work at the piano, and that was about it. Oh, and earlier I’d had a small thing of popcorn and about two ounces of Beer nutmeats.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep. Then I’ll finish the commentary, do some more work at the piano, maybe write some intros to songs in the LA show, and I also have to get more songs to the fellow who does the charts – I have four more of mine, and then several by other writers who only do lead sheets. I don’t want an orchestrator to have to work from a lead sheet. Then we’ll do the belated Sami birthday dinner at Genghis Cohen.

This week is nothing but meetings and meals – very busy. Tomorrow I have a meeting with our choreographer, then the helper and I will go into storage and start figuring out what we can throw out, what we can sell, and what I need to keep. I’m sure I’ll see and approve the book galley and all that stuff, and once I do then they’ll send me the finished book and once I see that I can order my copies. I’ll also set the book signing. We’re having a few more auditions on Friday, too, and then I’ll finalize the cast. I had been asked to use up to fourteen people, seven and seven, but I’m now told that I can do less, which is probably better, so maybe six and six. I think I have to see a couple of things this week, too.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Pony, for today is the birthday of musical dear reader Matthew.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to musical dear reader Matthew.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO MUSICAL DEAR READER MATTHEW!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, finish the commentary, work on songs, write, and then have a belated birthday dinner. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall take a short walk off a long pier.
