NOTES THAT WEREN’T ALL THAT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and therefore I must write these here notes in a hurry, not that there’s all that much to write since yesterday was an alarmingly banal day, with a few nice moments. The worst part was no Grant and therefore no finishing the book design. It was basically the second day I’ve been stuck waiting to hear if we would be working only to never actually hear until I finally called about it. I think I got a bit over eight hours of sleep. Once up, I answered e-mails and did some work on the computer. I had a couple of telephonic calls, and then I went and had a cup of soup and a sandwich. After that I picked up a couple of teeny-tiny packages (but no Beer Nuts) and came home. I got some irritating news via e-mail – nothing completely horrendous, but irritating nonetheless. Then I had a meeting with friend Wayne Moore, who was the musical director of Li’l Abner. He’s contributing to the LA show and we discussed the one number he has done so far, plus a few other ideas that he might tackle. After that, I just kept waiting to hear about doing the work on the book, but waited in vain until I finally called at six-thirty and was told it wasn’t happening. I flew off the handle a little, as is my wont. Also, I found it a bit tiresome that we didn’t go up by even a dollar for the Indiegogo campaign. We will have to set that to rights soon, but if you’re coming in now would sure be a helpful time.

I did some work at the piano, and I sent e-mails to two performers about doing the March show – haven’t heard back from either but hopefully will today. One way or another, I have to start assigning the songs and narrowing down the list. I had a long telephonic conversation with the helper – it’s great to have her back and she’s betting up to speed on the Indiegogo stuff. There have been too many errors made in her absence and we must get this organized and down to a science. She and her fiancé found an apartment so that’s good. I had several more really long telephonic conversations and then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

I cooked up a little steak for my evening repast and watched the first fifty minutes of a motion picture entitled Armageddon. It’s as bad as you might imagine, but I was surprised to see that one of its writers was J.J. Abrams – this was well before Alias. The movie was successful but now all the little tykes who thought it was the best thing since white bread are now trendily saying it’s a horrible movie. Really? It was horrible then, too. Just terrible writing and typical Michael Bay direction. And why are movies like this always two hours and twenty minutes long?

After that, I just did work on the computer, took a long, hot shower and that was that.

Today, I have to run over to the El Portal to pick up something, then do some banking, then I’m having my first non-Teddy haircut, and then I’m going directly to Grant’s to finish up the book design. I don’t think he’ll actually be able to send it to the publisher as he’s going away for the weekend, but hopefully it will go in on Monday at the latest. Once in, we should be able to move it along at a steady clip. For once, I’d like to have books in March, rather than mid-April. And I’m thinking for once we will. I’ll probably make it available for pre-order on Monday. I’m very excited for people to read it – very proud of it. Perhaps when we finish our work, we’ll go out and get a bite to eat – I have a hankering for Casa Vega and some good ol’ Mexican foodstuffs.

Tomorrow and Sunday will be all Kritzerland show stuff, so that on Monday I can figure out the show order and write the commentary. We’re also doing a reading of Inside Out that I’m overseeing with our great company of ladies from last year. And I know there’s definitely one or two things happening in terms of seeing something. Also, we’ll be casting the LA show at the end of next week.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, pick up something, do some banking, get a haircut, finish the book design, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, no clew. Blu and Ray, the three films in the Edgar Wallace German Blu-ray set, the first of what will hopefully be a replication of the complete DVD box sets. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, sorry that the notes weren’t all that, but promising that tomorrow they will be all that.
