THE HAIRCUT AND GETTING THE NEW BOOK ON ITS MERRY WAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m happy to say that the book has been sent to the publisher and we’ll make it available for pre-order on Monday morning. The back cover is really fun, we entered a bunch of last-minute corrections (about twenty tiny things), and then Grant and I went to the Hamburger Hamlet for a nice meal. There weren’t very many people there, but I had my Market Salad and some garlic bread and it was really good. Hadn’t been there in at least eight months and I really must go more regularly because I love the Market Salad.

Prior to that I had my first non-Teddy haircut from Grant’s wife Lydia. She actually HAS cut my hair before – one of the times Teddy was gone for six months with David Bowie on tour. She did a very nice job, too. There’s no one like Teddy – he was simply the best – he knew my hair, knew how to have it look perfect for my head and he was one of a kind. But Lydia is excellent and I was very happy. And it’s right here in the Valley, too. Prior to that, I’d only gotten about six hours of sleep, then I did morning stuff and then went to Lydia.

After I got home, I cast the two other females and we’re waiting on our last cast member, a fellow. So I should be able to finalize our song list this weekend, which is good. I had several long telephonic conversations about this, that, and the other, and did more work on the computer. The helper came by and we decided what we’ll be doing next week. I kept thinking about sitting on my couch like so much fish, but I just wasn’t in the damn mood to, so instead I sat at the piano like so much fish and noodled and wrote down a few melody ideas that might come in handy for the LA show.

I went to Gelson’s and got a chicken enchilada from their hot section and that was very good and not too heavy. I also bought some pasta for Wacky Noodles, and some popcorn, to have as a snack. I’m trying not to have so many damn sweets. Then I listened to music, attended to some e-mail responses and that was really about it. All in all, not a bad day.

Today, I’ll just do Kritzerland show stuff, I’ll make some Wacky Noodles (but not the whole box of pasta), and I’ll watch some motion pictures. I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and otherwise I’ll relax.

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and I’ll be having no Valentine that I know of. But we will be belatedly celebrating Sami’s sixteenth birthday at Genghis Cohen. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been working with this young lady since she was twelve. Monday we have a three-hour rehearsal for Inside Out – we’ll just read through the show, decide which bits they’ll actually stand up and move around for, and just get them back in performance mode. The rest of the week is meeting’s and meals, the staged reading of Inside Out on Wednesday, and then on Friday we have a three-hour casting session for the LA show. We’re also going into the storage facility and it is my intention to be merciless and get as much stuff in the trash as I can, consolidate other stuff into as few boxes as I can, and find stuff we can just sell if I can. I may even offer some of it here. For example, I have three pieces of original David Byrd art (he did the original Follies poster) – he did three covers for us at Bay Cities. I don’t really care about them and if there’s interest I’m happy to consider selling them.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, plan the Kritzerland show, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite pasta dishes and what are your favorite pasta dishes YOU like to make? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a nice but somewhat melancholy haircut, and especially happy that the book is on its merry way to the publisher.
