WHISPERING SWEET NOTHINGS IN ONE’S OWN EAR

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, Valentine’s Day is done and I hope everyone enjoyed their candy hearts. I personally had no candy hearts, nor did I spend the day or evening with anyone, but that’s fine. I was my own Valentine. I whispered sweet nothings in my ear (no mean feat), I looked longingly into my eyes, and I shared my Wacky Noodles with myself. It was quite a romantic day. First of all, I got eleven hours of blessed sleep, which I really needed. Then I got the news that the Darling Daughter is coming into town on Tuesday and we’ll dine that very evening, so that will be fun. Other than that, I just relaxed for most of the day. I waited in vain to hear from Doug Haverty about getting the book up for pre-order so I guess that’s not happening today.

I made the Wacky Noodles around two o’clock, and ate them all up whilst watching two strange motion pictures on the Flix of Net. The first motion picture was entitled The Rage, a very inane title. It starred Lorenzo Lamas, so I knew what I was in for, but Roy Scheider was in it and I always enjoy him. The director was Sidney J. Furie, who’s made some interesting films, including The Ipcress File and Lady Sings the Blues. This film is really horrible – made in 1997 it’s more like a Cannon film from the 1980s. The plot is mind-numbingly stupid (and Mr. Furie gets a story credit), and the cast is all over the place. Mr. Lamas and the leading lady are bad, but then they have nothing to play, and Gary Busey leaves no scenery unchewed, and poor Mr. Scheider is stuck with a wretchedly bad role that he can do nothing with.

The second motion picture was more interesting – a UK home invasion thriller from last year entitled Tiger House. It’s not great, but the first half certainly held my interest and I liked the young lady who stars in it very much – Kaya Scodelario. Unfortunately, it pretty much goes to hell at the halfway point of its very short eighty-two minute running time. The Wacky Noodles, though, were excellent.

After that, I did a mile-and-a-half jog, then did some work on the computer. I had a couple of telephonic calls, and I’d sent the sketch I’d written for the LA show to David Wechter, and he tweaked it a bit, adding a few funny things and putting a good button on it, so that’s one that’s done now. I listened to music, I showered, I looked longingly into my eyes again, and that was my Valentine’s Day.

Today, I have stuff to do in the morning hours, and then at three we have a three-hour rehearsal for the staged reading of Inside Out. For me, I just want the ladies to get back in show mode, plus I’ll decide where we’ll stand and do whatever blocking they remember. We don’t really have time to mess with anything, but, for example, if they remember their simple blocking for certain things, then we’ll do that. Most of the show is sitting in chairs, and to show time and day shifts we’ll do what we did in the show and everyone will switch chairs. Tom Griep is playing for the reading. After that, I think the plan is for some of us to grab a bite to eat.

Tomorrow, the Darling Daughter is coming in. She’ll get here at two and leave her little dog here whilst she and her ever-lovin’ husband go see the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Then they’ll come back here and we’ll go have dinner somewhere fun – I’m thinking Genghis Cohen or the local Thai jernt. Wednesday we have to trek out to Sierra Madre for the staged reading. I’ll be going with Doug Haverty. We’ll go early, eat, and then have a little cue to cue when we get there. The rest of the week is meetings and meals and book stuff and Kritzerland show stuff and stuff stuff.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do stuff, have a rehearsal, eat, hopefully pick up packages, although I don’t think there’s mail, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite films of Lorenzo Lamas? I’m kidding. What are your guilty pleasure awful movies from the 1980s and 1990s? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have spent Valentine’s Day with someone I cared about – ME.
