March 31, 2016:

A FOND FAREWELL TO MARCH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but this is the final day of March. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, this is the final day of March. How can that be? Wasn’t it just the beginning of March? And now it’s suddenly the end of March and shortly the beginning of April? Well, it is my fervent hope and prayer that April will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. And speaking of health, send some excellent vibes and xylophones this way because I’m trying desperately not to get sick here – I’ve been fighting guck all year, actually, and winning, and I can’t have these problems on the show week.

Yesterday, I got ten glorious hours of sleep, thanks to a dose of NyQuil. Once up, I answered e-mails and did some work on the computer, as well as having some telephonic calls. Then Sami and her mom came over and we went to a local Japanese jernt called Katsuya for Japanese food. This jernt has a lot of five-star reviews on Yelp and I’ve passed it hundreds of times. First of all, it’s filled with trendy Studio City types, so, for me that’s strike one. Strike two was a fifteen-minute wait. Strike three was the noise factor and the mediocre food – not someplace I ever need to return to.

Then we came back here and did a little work session. Sami is playing Wednesday in The Addams Family at school and she was unsure how to play some of it, so we talked through stuff and read through stuff and I thought she had a good handle on most of it and just gave her a few suggestions – mostly timing things, and little beats within lines and stuff. Then they left and I went back to the computer.

The rest of the day and evening is a blank. I literally have no idea what I did. My head felt wacky and my sinuses felt wacky, which is so irritating to me I can’t even tell you. I probably did some work on the LA show, and I e-mailed a bunch of people, including the gal who’s on top of the book order – but I didn’t hear back from her, unfortunately. I literally cannot remember what else I did, but I must have done something since it was suddenly time to write these here notes. I do know that I didn’t watch anything.

Today, I will hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep (I’ll probably do NyQuil again), I’ll eat, hopefully hear about the book order, hopefully pick up packages, and then we have our second Kritzerland rehearsal. After that, I’ll just relax.

Tomorrow I’ll just rest all day and do some errands and whatnot. If I’m feeling okay, I may go see a show, but then again, I may just wait until after the Kritzerland show. Saturday is our stumble-through, and Sunday is sound check and show. Then, amazingly, I have only one week before we begin rehearsals on the LA show, so it will be mostly dealing with that stuff, plus getting the May Kritzerland show all cast and songs chosen and assigned, so I don’t have to worry about that.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, eat, hopefully pick up packages, hopefully have some good news about the book order, have a rehearsal, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could play any instrument you wanted, what would it be and why (that’s aside from anything you might actually play)? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as we bid a fond farewell to March.
