NOTHING IS JUMPING OUT AT ME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had an additional Indiegogo perk go privately and I do think that will enable us to have our extra musician without any problem. And that extra musician will be our orchestrator, Lanny Meyers. He’ll be on second keyboard and that will add some fun colors to what he’s already done. I also got a new song in, this from Paul Gordon (we already had one of his songs) and it’s really quite good – a kind of Beach Boys/surfer song and I really wanted something like it for the show – plus it will be really fun to stage. I’m trying to figure out which act will be best for it, but I’m thinking maybe act one. I do have to make sure we have enough fun stuff for act two, but the Vilanch sketch will definitely go there and there are some good numbers I’ve saved. It’s really hard to assemble something when you’re still waiting on material, but save for one song, and I’m not sure it’s going to make the show yet, we’ve now got all the musical numbers, and I’m really waiting on three monologues that go with a song, and the Vilanch sketch. Once I have those, then I’ll know what, if anything, I’ll need to add myself.

Yesterday was an okay day. I think I got close to eight hours of sleep, then I got up and answered e-mails, did some work at the piano, and began proofing three charts that came in. I do that very carefully, trying not to miss anything. Then, hopefully today or tomorrow, we’ll enter the fixes and fix any rhythm issues at that time. After some of that, I went and had a cup of soup and a sandwich, after which I came right back home, and just in the nick of time since it began to pour. It was a really heavy rain that lasted about ninety minutes. I did some work on the computer, but I really just needed to relax and clear my brain, so I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday and last night I finished season four of House of Cards. The last couple of episodes were pretty good, but as a whole the season just felt a bit disjointed – better than the third season, which I didn’t like at all, and better than the second season, which I also didn’t care for after the brilliant opening episode of that season. The actors are all terrific, I’m fond of the music by Jeff Beal, and it looks good. The real problem is it’s just hard to keep this kind of series going over this long a time.

At some point I went to Gelson’s and did the salad bar again along with some shrimp cocktail shrimp – all practically no calories. I also bought a big ol’ bag of square pretzels – that’s a nice low-cal snack with 0 fat grams. I had a few telephonic conversations and prepared all the stuff for our new release announcement on Monday morning. It’s a helluva release, that’s all I can say.

Today, I will work on the Kritzerland show and the LA show, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and at some point relax.

Tomorrow will be more of the same. Monday we’ll announce our new release, then we have a meet and greet with the cast of the LA show and I’ll be recording each cast member’s voice so I have a reference here when trying to figure out who’s going to sing what. In just a handful of instances I’ll decide once we’re in music rehearsals. Then the rest of the week will be meetings and meals, working on the shows, having a production meeting on Thursday, and I think I may have a show to see at some point.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, work on the Kritzerland and LA shows, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite performances of Kevin Spacey? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, always happy for an okay day and what the HELL should I title these here notes? Nothing is jumping out at me. Oh, there’s the title right there.
