A PROMISE DELIVERED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I promised you videos of last Sunday’s Kritzerland show and so I shall deliver on that promise. But before I get to them, I just want to say that I must be stopped from EVER going to Gelson’s and getting a potpourri of snacks to eat late at night that are guaranteed to cause me grief. That happened and I was up at five-thirty on the verge of throwing up – I didn’t because I rather hate that, but my throat was burning up as if I had thrown up. I didn’t that aggravation. I went back to bed after a few sips of carbonation, which is the best thing to do, I’ve found, and I just played on the iPad until about eight, at which point I fell back asleep, despite the noisy moron builders.

I got up around eleven-fifteen so I maybe got about four or five hours of sleep, but my throat was pretty trashed so I didn’t use my voice too much during the day and evening. I did some work on the computer, uploaded the videos to You Tube (some of them – there are more to do), and had one long telephonic conversation during which I spoke very quietly. I got the news that Eubie had arrived, so those are all going out this morning. Then I finally felt like I could eat and I went to Hugo’s because everything is very fresh and good there. I had my usual small Caesar, which is smaller with every visit, and my usual pasta papa, which is smaller with every visit. Both were very good, however. Then I came back home, did more work on the computer, and then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night I watched the first third of a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Lilies of the Field. I must admit here and now and also now and here that I have not seen that movie since when it came out – I saw it two or three times back then and loved it, as did most, but for some reason I’ve never watched it since. So, it’s like rediscovering this little treasure of a film and I’ll have much more to say when I’ve finished it this evening.

And now to the three videos I’ve uploaded so far. First up, we have our opening number, a newly written What If – What if Kander and Ebb, instead of writing Cabaret, had written – Gypsy. And it goes something like this.

That was the wonderful Shannon Warne. Next up we have the impish and quite mad Jason Graae and the equally impish and quite mad Sharon McNight, doing a wonderful song from The Pajama Game but rejiggered for them.

They are both one-of-a-kind and I’ll have more of them coming in tomorrow’s notes, along with our very own Robert Yacko. Finally we have little eleven-year-old Hadley Belle Miller (voice of Lucy in The Peanuts Movie) doing the Sherman Brothers song, Fortuosity, from The Happiest Millionaire. You’ll not I wrote new lyrics to the opening verse to make it about our show – Richard was delighted with them and I was delighted he was delighted.

Isn’t she adorable? She gets better and better. The rest of last night was spent relaxing, showering, and getting a little idea for a new web series I might try to do this summer. Putting together Outside the Box is just so daunting for so many reasons, but I do have two of them fully prepared and I may just do those and call it a day with that one. This new idea would be much simpler to do. We’ll see where the idea takes me.

Today, I shall have a ME day and relax and rest my voice because I really need it to be strong for the book signing and then a little private read-through of the LA show, where I’ll have to play my songs. We’ll get all the Eubies out the door and I’m hoping some of you dear readers get Patrick Bronstein Presents and that you won’t just sit there like a piece of herring and you’ll read it. At some point I’ll eat, and then I’ll finish Lilies of the Field.

Tomorrow, I’ll try to do a jog in the morning, and then I’ll pick up the cake for the signing, then mosey on over to Mystery and Imagination Books. I’m hoping we have a good crowd. I’ve begun to choose the short portions I’ll read. After the signing some of us will go to a nearby eatery and eat, which is a good thing to do at a nearby eatery. Then we have our read-through and then I have to go to some show choir thing. Sunday is a day of rest for me, and then Monday we begin the L.A. Now and Then journey, which I’m really excited about and which I’m hoping will be really fun to work on. Rehearsals are every day, but not until the later afternoon, so I’ll have the mornings to work on the Kritzerland show and other stuff, like the next Kritzerland release.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, rest my voice, ship CDs, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu-ray player? I’ll start – Blu-ray, Lilies of the Field and then Alexander the Great. CD, Kritzerland stuff. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping you’ve enjoyed notes with video and the promise delivered.
