BACK-TO-BACK REHEARSALS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, our second Kritzerland rehearsal went very well. One of our gals was not feeling well, so she’ll come early on Saturday to run her stuff in advance of the stumble-through. Everyone was pretty damn solid on their material, which I always appreciate so that everything isn’t last minute in terms of knowing stuff. I love the material and these singers are simply amazing. And John Boswell at the piano is the icing on the cake, baby. I’m going to have to sing the opening number at our stumble-through. We have a big surprise at the show itself, in terms of who’s doing that number. Prior to that rehearsal I was up very early and getting a haircut from the lovely Lydia Geissman at nine. Once finished, I had just enough time to go have an omelet and a bagel, since I knew I’d have no time to eat until after the LA show rehearsal. I came right home, answered e-mails, did some work on the computer, and then it was time for the aforementioned second rehearsal.

Then I moseyed on over to LACC for our rehearsal. Since we had none of our shared actors at all for the entire rehearsal (a two-show day for them), we did cleanup work on the sketches and Cheryl was there so we did the same for all the group numbers and a couple of the smaller ones. I made one cast change on a sketch, because the sketch has such a specific kind of writing and there’s just not enough time to teach that kind of rhythm and comedy delivery, so I gave it to Robert Yacko, who’d read it at the private reading, because it’s just second nature to him. We got a fair amount done.  Oh, and let me share our show poster with you – design by Doug Haverty.

After, I came right home. I had a little trail mix here so I demolished that, then had some leftover cucumber salad and I demolished that. I finessed a couple of things in the commentary, had a telephonic conversation, and relaxed a bit.

Today, I have to be at rehearsal at nine-thirty, which means I have to leave around 8:45 just in case of traffic. Then we begin a stop-and-start run-through at ten sharp – we have our full cast for the entire day. We’ll work from ten to one, then have a thirty-minute break and at one-thirty we’ll begin our designer run-through, which will hopefully go smoothly. After that, I’ll give some notes and perhaps work some stuff, but because it’s a two-hour show there won’t be a whole lot of time once we’re finished. Then I’ll either go get something to eat on that side of the hill, or I’ll brave traffic and come home and get something to eat on this side of the hill. Then my intention is to either relax or go see a play – one way or another, I’ll see the play tonight or tomorrow night.

Tomorrow, we have a brief two-hour music rehearsal in the morning, then I come home and get everything ready for the stumble-through, which isn’t until five, but the gal who missed yesterday is coming at four to run her stuff. Then we’ll have our stumble-through and then I’m sure some of us will grab a bite to eat. Sunday I can relax until it’s time for sound check and show. And then we begin our crazy journey to opening night – with run-throughs every day, a band rehearsal on Tuesday that I cannot wait to attend, a sitzprobe after the run-through on Wednesday, and then on Friday we begin our tech.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, rehearse, do a designer run-through, eat, and either see a show or relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player. I’ll start – haven’t a clew. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy our back-to-back rehearsals went well.
