NOTES OF NO SUBSTANCE WHATSOEVER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I somehow managed to have a perfectly relaxing day of doing not much of anything, although I always feel guilty on such days. But given the next few weeks, it will probably be the only day I’ll really have to relax, so there’s that. Because of that there’s not really much to talk about. Oh, I could talk about the fact I got about ten hours of sleep. I could mention that I had a sandwich for my main meal o’ the day. I could mention that I had a slightly annoying e-mail that I responded to in a slightly annoying way, but which thankfully I am in complete control of. I could speak of the fact that I ate a rather large number of the pistachio nuts with salt and pepper – I’d been introduced to the salt and pepper version during Li’l Abner, but haven’t had them since. They’re rather nauseating but amusing on some level. I could say I didn’t feel like watching anything and therefore I didn’t. I could tell you I picked up two insignificant packages. I could tell you that I ran my opening patter and the lyrics to the three Guy Haines songs, but otherwise just rested my voice. I could tell you that the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain unless you’re flying, in which case the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plane. What the HELL am I talking about?

What else can I tell you? I could tell you this entire past week has been nausea and acid reflux/heartburn free. I could tell you that I miss the LA show a LOT. I could tell you I’m thinking about another project I might want to work on. I’m also thinking about what musical I might like to direct at LACC early next year – not an original, but something classic or outré or fun. I do think we’re going to do a fundraiser for the theater department come November – a tenth anniversary staged concert of The Brain from Planet X. I’m thinking that would be fun and that we could easily sell it out. I’m thinking I may be directing a play at some point in the second half of this year, but it’s too soon to chat about it – until it’s actually announced and for certain, I shall say not a word. I could tell you that it’s late and these here notes need to get posted, yes, I could tell you that and that would be the truth.

I could also tell you I had six teeny-tiny Tootsie Roll fruit chews, which I’m fond of. I bought a big ol’ bag of them on Amazon. They have very interesting candies on Amazon and usually much cheaper than anywhere else. I could ask this question: Do they still sell Jujubes? Update: They do. Has anyone ever sued them for fillings being pulled out? I used to eat them at the movie theater, but trying to chew them was crazy – one eventually had to just suck on them and let them soften but even then they could seemingly rip out your teeth. I preferred their other candy, Jujyfruits – they still sell those, too – Amazon has them. I may have to get a box or three. Update: I just bought two boxes. I don’t see this or Jujubes at stores anymore. I remember Jujyfruits being softer and easier on the teeth – hope I’m remembering correctly. I wonder if they still sell Sno-Caps? I used to love pouring those down my gaping maw during the movies. Update: Yes, and I just bought two boxes. I’m also fond of those pepperoni sticks you get at the convenience store and they sell those, too, on Amazon so I bought a jar of them. So, today’s notes has caused me to purchase a lot of junk food.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep, and then I’ll do a jog to clear my throat and get some energy going, and then we have our stumble-through at three and I’m quite certain some of us will go sup after.

Tomorrow is our sound check and show. Monday I’m attending a banquet for the LACC theater department at a downtown club, Tuesday I’m doing a radio show with our very own Donald Feltham, and the rest of the week is meetings and meals, seeing a couple of shows, I think, and also hopefully hearing the mixes of the LA show’s live recording.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, do a stumble-through, eat, and relax – I’ve been invited to see a show in the evening but it’s kind of a drive – still, I may go because it starts early and I’ll be home by nine or nine-thirty. We shall see. Today’s topic of discussion: What really stupid snacks and/or foods do you just like even though others may poo-poo them? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having written an entire notes of no substance whatsoever.
