SHRIMP BITS ON TOAST

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, can someone explain to me how it is already the middle of June? That just boggles my already boggled mind. June is flying by, like a gazelle eating shrimp bits on toast. And while you’re explaining, can you also explain to me how it is already after midnight? I gotta tell you. Now, yesterday, there was a day that had no real point at all, at least not me-wise. Oh, I was up at nine-thirty because someone was coming by at ten – well, they didn’t so I could have slept another hour and actually gotten nine instead of eight hours of sleep, although I slept very well. But, there I was, waiting for Godot. I answered a bevy of e-mails, I had a telephonic call, and then I decided to go to the framers to frame the Collier’s cover. When I bought it four years ago it came with the ugliest yellow wood frame with an ugly red frame within the yellow frame and since the background of the art was yellow it simply hurt the eyes and robbed the art of any oomph. Other than the fact I couldn’t identify what the art had been used for, that was the main reason for keeping it out of my eyesight for all those years.

We found a really nice frame and chose both an inner and outer matte that really made everything pop so beautifully. Someone had asked for an actual photograph of the actual art, so here they are side by side so you can see exactly how they used it on the cover.

After that, I went to Gelson’s and got two chicken breasts and a few other items, then picked up a few small packages which contained a few small things. Then I came home and I made some yummilicious chicken stroganoff for my meal o’ the day. Whilst eating it, I went to the Flix of Net and watched some Fox TV show from a decade ago, some show where a masked magician revealed how they did magic tricks. I watched two episodes and I must say even though it does spoil things, the illusions are usually so simple in how they’re done that you just smack yourself in the head for not realizing it. A good magician is a by-god mesmerizer and master of misdirection. I’ll continue watching more episodes, perhaps even this day.

Then Kay Cole came by and we did some planning for the upcoming album we’re going to make, so it’s full speed ahead and we’ll probably record in September. After that, I did a few things on the computer and had a few more telephonic calls. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish, since I learned we would not be finessing mixes.

Last night, I watched on the Flix of Net a motion picture that came and went this past January entitled Synchronicity, a low-budget sci-fi thing. It grossed exactly four thousand dollars (it only played a few days in five theaters) – that must be the lowest grossing box-office return in history. It had something to do with time travel and alternate timelines but it’s quite convoluted and I tuned out at some point and just let it finish. The acting was okay, but the director really needs to find his own voice and not copy others – this film, look and feel-wise is simply Blade Runner – everything – the photography, the music, the shots, all Blade Runner. Note to director: We have Blade Runner, go make your own movie.

After that, I just played on the computer and relaxed and ate a bagel and made the second chicken breast, which I ate with a bagel.

Today, I shall not be making chicken stroganoff. That is the only thing I can say with a certainty. I may just go over to Whole Foods and get some of that sweet chili shrimp thing and some mac-and-cheese for my meal o’ the day. Then again, I may not. The person who was supposed to be here yesterday says they’re coming today at eleven-thirty. We shall see. Hopefully I’ll pick up packages, and then I’ll wait to hear if we’re finessing mixes and all I can tell you is we’d better be.

The rest of the week is getting the LA show CD to mastering (packaging has gone to the printers), meetings and meals, seeing a couple of things, and then going to Disney Hall for a concert honoring Mr. Richard M. Sherman. It will be my first time in Disney Hall. We’ll probably go down there a couple of hours early and eat, that way we’ll get good parking.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and hopefully finesse and finish mixes. Today’s topic of discussion: Do you like magic? When did you see your first magic show or trick? What are and were the best illusions you’ve ever seen? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall ponder the gazelle eating shrimp bits on toast.
