THE INCIDENT OF THE SWEET CHILI SHRIMP AND THE GROSS NACHOS WITH GROUND BEEF

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, call me paranoid, call me irresponsible, call me Ishmael or call me, don’t be afraid you can call me, but in yesterday’s notes I wrote about Whole Foods and that yummilicious sweet chili shrimp thing. Now, I’d gone there after the Donald Feltham radio show at about eight-fifteen at night. And they had about five POUNDS of it left (I only took a little bit of it since I didn’t know if I’d like it). So, last night, I decided I wanted that for my snack so I moseyed on over there a full hour earlier than the night before and what did I find? The sweet chili shrimp thing – sold out. None left. Squat. Whereas there’d been about five POUNDS of it the previous night an hour later. Do we think this is coincidence or do we think that people read these here notes and ran over there to buy it all up? Coincidence? You tell me. I know it seems silly of me to think that a bunch of Studio City people read these here notes, but don’t you just think that’s WEIRD? So, let’s see what I can do right now? What if I say that last night I had the most yummilicious thing from Whole Foods, their ceviche. Now, I don’t eat that crap, but I wonder if I actually said that seriously if tomorrow that would be all gone by the time I got there? In any case, I was so irritated by this sold out business that I went to Jerry’s Deli and ordered the stupidest thing I could – the nachos with ground beef. And I am now regretting that in a major way as I kind of want to vomit on the ground. And I blame the whole damn thing on the people of Studio City and Whole Foods.

Yesterday was a day of some niceties. I got a little less than eight hours of sleep due to not falling asleep until three in the morning. Once up, I had to get ready for my luncheon with Richard Sherman, Milt Larson, and Richard Allen, who was our musical director on the LA show and is also their musical director on their musical. We convened at Genghis Cohen – I ordered for everyone, as always. The food was good but not great because I’ve learned the hard way that their good chef is not on until five, and he is simply miles better than the lunch chef. Still, everyone enjoyed it. The purpose of the lunch was for me to give them my feedback on their musical, which I saw a reading of last week. This I did and they seemed interested in what I had to say and why I was saying it. So, now they’ve given me a script so I can write more specific notes on scenes and such, which I’m happy to do. Then we just gabbed, and these guys have great stories, of course. And Milt’s going to arrange for me and some guests to come to the Magic Castle, which he runs, and I haven’t been there to see magic in about forty years, so that will really be fun because I’m sure we’ll get the VIP treatment and we’re all about THAT.

After lunch, I came back to the Valley, picked up some packages, and came home. I did some work on the computer, had some telephonic calls, committed to the play I’m directing next June, and then heard the last of the three problem songs from the LA show and my engineer did a masterful job in fixing that one, too, so we’ve cancelled the pick-up recording for today. I never got around to watching a motion picture, then we had the incident of the Whole Foods sweet chili shrimp sell out and then the gross nachos with ground beef incident, and here I sit feeling yuckilicious. I have videos from Sunday’s Kritzerland show but didn’t upload them to You Tube, so I’ll do that today and post some in tomorrow’s notes.

Today, I have a meeting in the afternoon, otherwise it’s a light day, although I have to get all the packaging information for the live cast recording of the LA show to the designer because we’re going to announce that next week probably. Tomorrow evening I’m seeing a local production of The Fantasticks, Saturday I’m visiting Mystery and Imagination Books, and Sunday I’m seeing Barry Pearl in the closing performance of the play he’s been doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a meeting, eat, hopefully pick up packages, do liner notes and packaging, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite ways to eat shrimp? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, not thrilled about the incident of the sweet chili shrimp and then the incident of the gross nachos with ground beef.
