THE INEXHAUSTIBLE GIFTS OF CELEBRATORY FRUIT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and I must get some semblance of beauty sleep. And besides, not that much happened yesterday so this will all go very quickly and, conversely, quickly this will all go. Of course, now I can’t remember anything that happened yesterday, so there’s that. So, perhaps I’ll simply tell the story of The Randy Vicar and the Horn of Plenty. What IS the horn of plenty, anyway? I’ve got a horn sitting right here and it has no plenty and believe me, I’ve looked for the damn plenty. Now wait just a darned minute – did you know the horn of plenty comes from the word cornucopia? Did you know that a cornucopia is a symbolic horn filled with the inexhaustible gifts of celebratory fruit? First of all, we simply cannot have enough of the inexhaustible gifts of celebratory fruit. I don’t know about you, dear readers, but I’m all about the celebratory fruit. But if that’s what a cornucopia is then why didn’t they simply call it hornucopia? Why come up with a whole new thing like horn of plenty, which sounds vaguely smutty? What the HELL am I talking about? Don’t I have some notes to write?

Here’s what I remember about yesterday: I got about seven hours of sleep. I got the liner notes for the surprise project, proofed them, made a few adjustments, sent it off to Nick Redman who also made a few adjustments, back to the author of the notes who was fine with the few adjustments and who made one adjustment of his own. Then I got the actual packaging and everyone approved that and it either went to the printer or will on Monday morning. That took up quite a bit of the day, actually. I had a homemade bacon cheeseburger at around noon-thirty – it was pretty good if I do say so myself and I do. Then I had to go in the book room and get everything off the floor and filed away so that she of the Evil Eye could get in there and do her cleaning thing. Some stuff went back in the closet and some went to the garage and I went to the couch, where I sat like so much fish.

Last night, I decided to open the new Airport box set and I watched the original film first. It’s quite a nice transfer and I always enjoy the movie. The best thing about it is Van Heflin and Maureen Stapleton, but I like everyone in the movie except some of the really badly cast smaller roles that take the film into camp territory. And I do love the Alfred Newman score. At around seven I made myself a second bacon cheeseburger and ate it all up. It, too, was very good and between the two burgers it was just about 1000 calories, which is good. I did not, by the way, eat any celebratory fruits.

After that, I did some work on the computer, had a couple of e-mail volleys about the ALS benefit and that was that.

Today, I will be up early. The helper is supposed to come at nine to teach she of the Evil Eye how to use the new vacuum cleaner. Hopefully she’ll remember, although I just sent a reminder e-mail and text. Then I’ll go have something light like a bagel or egg or something. I’ll come home a bit before noon and get ready for the talk I’m doing at one, which is, happily, only five minutes from the home environment. I’m hoping there’ll be a good turnout and I’m also hoping people there will ask questions rather than me just rambling on about this and that and also that and this. If I’m left to my own devices, I’ll probably start going on about the hornucopia and the corn of plenty – oh, wait – the cornucopia and the horn of plenty, not to mention the inexhaustible celebratory fruits. After that, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, then come home and relax. Later in the evening, I’m joining some folks for a late-night snack, probably at Du-Par’s, so that should be fun.

Tomorrow, I’ll prepare everything for Monday morning’s CD announcement, but other than that, I’ll just relax. Next week is all stuff for the Kritzerland show and the ALS benefit – so much to do for both, so I’ll buckle down, Winsocki, and do it.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do things, do a talk to a musical theatre group, hopefully pick up packages, relax, and then meet folks for a late-night snack. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite movies that take place on airplanes? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall hopefully find a horn of plenty filled with the inexhaustible gifts of celebratory fruit.
