IT IS SUNDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is Sunday. And they say we never give you any up to date information here at haineshisway.com. Clearly they are wrong. Clearly we have plenty of up to date information here at haineshisway.com. Clearly. So, it is Sunday and take from that what you will. I take from that that being Sunday that means yesterday was Saturday. That of course is old news because today is Sunday. But Saturday was a day and we may as well give it its due.

I got about seven hours of sleep, arising at around ten-thirty. I answered the e-mails that needed answering, had a telephonic call, and did some work on the computer. Valarie Pettiford dropped by to pick up her charts that we’d used for the ALS benefit. Then I went and had some chicken tenders at Jerry’s Deli. They can vary wildly, the chicken tenders can, but yesterday they varied right to the bottom of the barrel. They were pretty damn bad, but I ate them dutifully.

I ascertained that there were no packages to pick up, so I came home. I did a few more things on the computer, mainly to do with The Brain and locking down the production details, and realizing that at this late date I can’t really cancel the November Kritzerland show, so we’re going to barrel ahead with it and it will be a little crazy for sure, but to make it easy on myself, for only the second time in our history, we’re going to repeat a show, but it’s from a long time ago, our fifth show, in fact – an all Sondheim show. That show is already built and written and while I’ll swap out two or three songs for others, it basically is done and just needs to be cast. So we’ll be rehearsing both shows at the same time, and the Kritzerland show is the night before The Brain.

I had two more long telephonic conversations, did a two-and-a-half mile jog, then finally sat on my couch like so much fish and decided to try one of those Netflix series that’s really from the BBC, this one entitled River. It’s a brooding, dark show with Stellan Skarsgaard, but I kind of like it, although I’m not enamored of the fussy direction. All the actors are excellent. After episode one (it’s mercifully only a six-episode series), I went to Gelson’s and got a really small portion of the Hatch Chile Mac-and-cheese, and some prosciutto, and some melon balls, then I came home and ate it all up whilst watching the second episode, which was as good as the first. After that, I just relaxed and did some work on the computer.

Today, I don’t have much to do, so it will kind of be a ME day. Not sure what I want to do about food but I’m pretty sure it’s not going to Jerry’s Deli. So, perhaps I’ll make something, or get a sandwich from Subway or maybe even a couple of slices of pizza at Dino’s. We shall see. Otherwise, I’ll jog, write a little (and it’s also that time of year for me to settle on January’s book idea), and watch the rest of River.

Tomorrow I have a lot of stuff I need to deal with, including needing some major miracles, then Tuesday is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, Thursday is our second, Saturday is our stumble-through, Sunday is sound check and show, and Monday is this other film music thing I’ve been doing for the last couple of years. In addition to all that, I have meetings and meals and going and doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, eat, write, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have learned from this here site and these here notes that it is Sunday.
