August 30, 2016:

NEW WORDS FOR ALL OCCASIONS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle doing Shuffle Off to Buffalo with an actual buffalo. More importantly, how can it be the end of August? And try to remember it will soon be September. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It is unseemly to get ahead of oursolves and also ourselves. Oursolves should be a word, don’t you think? Once you mis-type a word and by doing so create a new word then that new word ought to enter the lexicon. In any case, where the HELL did August go?

Yesterday was a completely weird day any way you look at it and I choose to look at it askance, oh yes, I choose to look at it askance. I got just under eight hours of sleep, had a telephonic call, answered a plethora of e-mails, then went and had a Chinese chicken salad in Jerry’s Deli. How they know from a Chinese chicken salad or what a Chinese chicken salad actually has to do with China is anyone’s guess. I also had a bagel. It was all very good and I was sated, oh, yes, I was sated. Then I picked up one package and some mail, then came home. The helper came by (she was very ill last week) and got invoices and got all that stuff shipped.

Then the weird part of the day began and didn’t abate until well in the evening. It involved a LOT of unnecessary drama, first via e-mail and then via text and then via telephone, and this went on for several hours. I took a break and did a two-and-a-half mile jog, and then it continued apace once I caught my breath. It ended with a very long telephonic conversation that hopefully cleared the air, which, trust me, needed clearing. I then went to Gelson’s and got a few drumettes for my evening snack. I came home and ate them, whilst answering more e-mails and having one final telephonic call.

I never did get to watch a motion picture or even relax, I didn’t write any patter for the birthday concert, and, as you’ve seen, it was just a weird, weird day. Completely.

Today will hopefully not be a weird, weird day – I’m hoping today is a lovelier than lovely day with a few miracles thrown in for good measure. I could really use one of those right about now. How can I still be on page one of these here notes? Usually I’m on page three right about now and yet here I am on page one, typing meaningless words like oursolves and wondering when page two will appear. Ah, page two. I will jog, eat, then we have a birthday concert rehearsal, followed by a Kritzerland rehearsal, followed by a birthday concert rehearsal. So, that stuff won’t be finished until after seven, at which point I will damn well relax, damn it.

Tomorrow I have a lot of stuff to do, Thursday is our second Kritzerland rehearsal, Friday is more stuff to do including finalizing the birthday concert patter, Saturday we have an early stumble-through at eleven-thirty, so I’ll have the rest of the afternoon and evening free, Sunday is our sound check and show (almost sold out now), and Monday is the birthday concert, so no long weekend for the likes of me.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a non-weird day, jog, eat, rehearse, rehearse, and rehearse more. Today’s topic of discussion: Words – what are your favorite words to use? Favorite curse word? Favorite ten-dollar word? Favorite word that just makes you laugh? Let’s have loads of lovely postins, shall we – ooh, postins, a new word – whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall dream up all manner of new words for all occasions.
