REHEARSING RODGERS AND HART

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had a fun first rehearsal for the Kritzerland show, show number 69, which we call When Rodgers Had Hart. First to arrive was the wonderful Christina Saffran. We ran through her three numbers – My Romance, a put-together of Isn’t it Romantic and Where or When, and finally Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered – I was merely bewitched. Then came a newcomer to Kritzerland (actually Christina is also a newcomer to Kritzerland), Tamela D’Amico. Because she hasn’t been with us before she wasn’t really up on her songs, so we just figured out keys and did a little work, but she’ll now be in touch with Alby Potts, our MD, to work through things on the phone before Thursday. Her numbers are a put-together of Over and Over Again and Falling in Love With Love, Little Girl Blue, and Everything I’ve Got. She’s very quirky and I think she’ll do very well.

Then came Sami and her two friends Sierra and Samantha – the three S’s. They ran through their trio number, Sing for Your Supper, which sounds great and will really be fun. We ran that a couple of times, then ran Sami’s too solos, My Funny Valentine and Johnny One-Note. They left and Will Collyer arrived. We ran his two solos, Any Old Place With You and a put-together of There’s a Small Hotel and Thou Swell. Then Roger Befeler showed up and we ran their duet, Dear Old Syracuse, which is our opener and is a song I dearly love. Then Will left and Roger ran his two solos, a put-together of Way Out West and Manhattan, and a put-together of Blue Moon and I Could Write a Book. And that was rehearsal one. What a fun show it’s going to be.

Then I went and had my usual salad with no bagel, then came back home. Once home, I wasn’t thrilled with either My Funny Valentine or Little Girl Blue in terms of the feels and arrangements, so I whipped up two new arrangements and sent them to Alby and the singers. I’ll probably do the same for Over and Over Again and Falling in Love With Love.

Prior to all that, I got about seven-and-a-half hours of sleep. Then I did the pick-up I had to do, then came back to the Valley and had a bacon and cheese omelet and an English Muffin. Then I came home, did some work on the computer, then did a two-and-a-half mile jog, then showered and got ready for our rehearsal. The rest you know.

Today, I have a lunch with Jenna Lea Rosen and her mom, then I will do a jog, hopefully pick up packages, get the eBlast ready for Wednesday morning’s announcement, then Sami and her gal pals come again and we’ll do some staging for Sing for Your Supper. Then I’ll perhaps watch a motion picture.

Tomorrow we have an ALS producer meeting, Thursday is our second Kritzerland rehearsal, Saturday is our stumble-through, and Sunday is sound check and show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a lunch, hopefully pick up packages, do a jog, do work on the computer, have a little staging rehearsal, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What musical that has never been revived would you like to see revived and with whom on the creative team and who would star? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a fun first rehearsal.
