THE STUMBLE-THROUGH WITHOUT STUMBLES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us a really good stumble-through yesterday. Some stumble-throughs are rough and some aren’t, but this one was smooth as silk, with only two tiny lyric flubs. And I was happy to see that the structure and order played perfectly. And just hearing all those Rodgers and Hart songs is such a treat. Plus, as I’ve said before, the stumble-through day is almost my favorite part of the Kritzerland process – the day when we just do the show for each other – the support and good feeling in the room is always remarkable. Adryan Russ was with us, since she can’t see the show tonight, and she seemed to like it very much. There’s more staging than usual in this show and the Sing for Your Supper trio is especially fun in that regard. Sami’s friends who do the number with her are very talented and sweet as can be. A wonderful way to spend an hour on a Saturday. After we finished, I gave a few notes and we ran a few things.

Then some of us went over to Casa Vega for a little food. I had two beef tacos and a couple of bites of Spanish rice, so just six hundred calories for that. No chips, no salsa, no chili con queso dip. That was fun and afterwards I came right home.

Prior to all that, I was up early, did the two-and-a-half mile jog, did some errands and whatnot, then had some matzo brei to tide me over until dinner. I of course looked up the calorie count and it was under 300, so my total for the day was just under 1000 calories, and then some of that was worked off with the jog. I picked up no packages and came home, did some work on the computer, and then everyone arrived.

After I got home from dinner, I read through the commentary one final time and boy am I glad I did. When I had to move stuff around, thanks to the singer who dropped out, I didn’t move one thing, so I got that straightened out, then I smoothed out a few other things, and wrote a couple of new lines. Then I printed that out and got my tote bag ready to bring to the show. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished Stranger Things, but I’ve already said what I had to say. It finished and was somewhat satisfying while leaving open the possibility of a second season, although I’d hope that that just won’t be a rehash of season one. But the 80s nostalgia freaks LOVE the show. Of course they do – that generation is like no other in history in terms of their nostalgia addiction, whether movies, TV, soundtracks, or pop music. Anyway, it wasn’t great, but I enjoyed watching it.

After that, I went to Gelson’s and got some fruit – melon balls and cherries, not necessarily in that order. I came home and ate some of that as a snack, whilst relaxing and playing on the computer.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep. Then I’ll do a jog, get ready, and then I’ll mosey on over to The Federal for sound check, an artichoke, and then our show. I’m sure a few of us will go out after for a little bite to eat. I will, of course, have a full report.

Tomorrow, I have a morning meeting, then I’ll do some more work locking in the ALS script – I should be receiving the ALS portions so I can plug them in. There’s something really fun in the wind for the ALS benefit and if it pans out I can only tell you I will be a VERY happy boy in ways you can’t even imagine. It’s looking good, but I shan’t get too excited until I know the details have been worked out.

The rest of the week is all ALS stuff – a bunch of meetings, locking the script, doing any last-minute adjustments, and then I have a wedding to attend on Saturday (David Wechter’s mom is getting married), and then Sunday I’ll just go over everything as much as I can, plus I have to do all my entrance and exit diagrams for the show. Then Monday I arrive at nine in the morning and work straight up until the 8:00 curtain.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, relax, do a sound check, and then do the show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a stumble-through without stumbles.
