UP AND RUNNING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am back to normal, computer-wise, or, at the very least I am next to normal, computer-wise, for the computer is up and running. As most of you know, I began doing the restore from Time Capsule yesterday at around six. Well, it took a whopping sixteen hours to complete. At then end it seemed stalled for about thirty-five minutes so I called Apple and we discussed that and he said to give it another two hours. As soon as I hung up the phone it completed, booted up, asked for my password, I signed into the Cloud and voila my desktop came up, just exactly as it had been before the other computer went haywire. I had to put in the product key for Office to get Word up, but I breathed a sigh of relief to see all my documents were fine and dandy and also dandy and fine. I’d only gotten around four-and-a-half hours of sleep because I guess I was anxious to see where the restore was. I did the two-and-a-half mile jog at seven in the morning, which was, well, I don’t know what it was. When it was finally up, which was about nine-fifteen, I opened mail and that was going to take an hour to import all that stuff. But the really good news is all my passwords are saved and working just as they were. So, I went and had bacon and eggs and rye toast for my main meal o’ the day, then came right home to play on the computer. There were five updates to do – I did them quickly and the computer restarted. Oddly, I still have the message that there are the same five updates to do, so I’ll call Apple to see why it’s telling me to do them again. I don’t want to if I don’t need to. This new computer has a 5K retina display – it’s quite vivid and bright, I must say. I’ve always wanted a 5K retina display even though I don’t know what the HELL it is. Best of all, I’m writing these here notes and they’re easy to see and it’s just so much easier than the laptop. The new version of magic mouse is taking some getting used to – it’s a little weird about dragging stuff – when I call Apple next I may discuss that with someone who really knows the ins and outs of that device. The keyboard works great – light, quick, and effortless.

I spent a good portion of the day checking to see that everything was fine, which it seemed to be. This new computer is also extremely fast, much faster than the old one. We got the flyer done for the Kritzerland show, so as soon as the ticketing is live, I’ll do the Facebook event page, hopefully early this morning. We have a lovelier than lovely cast with several new Kritzerlanders: Marc Ginsburg, Ilene Graff, Sharon McNight, Regan Pasternak, Jenna Lea Rosen, Nick Santa Maria, Hayley Shukiar, Sami Staitman, and our beloved Richard M. Sherman. Songs are all chosen, too.

At some point, I went to Gelson’s and got some Hatch chili mac-and-cheese (this will be the last time for a while – I’ve overdosed on it), this little sausage and peppers in a teeny-tiny tortilla thing, and four little drumettes. I didn’t care for the sausage thing – I ate most but not all of it, but it wasn’t that good. The drumettes were the winner this time. I had an apple for dessert. I ate that whilst sitting on my couch like so much fish.

First I tried to watch the Blu and Ray of Assault on a Queen, but I gave up halfway through. Despite a screenplay by Rod Serling, it was just awful – no energy, boring, a completely wrong score by Duke Ellington (nice music and all, but not functioning as a score should), and lethargic and terrible direction by a Sinatra guy – Sinatra probably liked the guy because everything would be one take or whatever Sinatra wanted. Then I put on Queen of Blood, a completely wacky pastiche directed by Curtis Harrington using a lot of footage from a Russian sci-fi film. I gave up about halfway through on that one, too.

Then I began adjusting some lyrics on Anything You Can Do, which Sami and Jenna are doing – I’m just making a few lines more personal for them rather than Annie and Frank. Then I did the show order so I can begin writing the commentary today and maybe even finish it today – it would be nice to have it out of the way.

Today, I’ll hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep. I’ll jog, I’ll eat (tuna sandwiches is the food o’ the day), and I’ll write commentary, otherwise I’m just relaxing and having a ME day. I’m sure I’ll watch a motion picture of some sort.

This week we have two post mortem meetings – our own, and one with the charity. Not sure when those are happening. I have a few meetings and meals, I have to do some casting on The Brain, I have to figure out the October show, I’m talking to a gal who has a one-woman play she needs a director for – not sure it’s up my alley or that I’d be the right one, but she’s interesting so we’ll at least meet.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, eat, write, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that the new computer is up and running.
