BOSCO AND BRYLCREEM

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle in search of Bosco. Does anyone still use Bosco? Does Bosco even exist or has it gone the way of Brylcreem? How many here put Bosco in their milk? How many here put Brylcreem in their milk and Bosco in their hair? Holy moley on rye, they still make Bosco – now it comes in a handy-dandy squeeze bottle. But even holy molier they still make Brylcreem. Can you believe it? The two Bs are still with us all these years later. Too bad they still don’t use the Brylcreem slogan “A little dab’ll do ya.” I feel we should all purchase Bosco and Brylcreem immediately and put them in our milk and hair whilst listening to the theme from Exodus. I think I have just entered the realm of the incoherent – a realm I’m very fond of, if you must know and you must.

Well, that was a waste of a perfectly good paragraph and therefore I feel it was an excellent way to open these here notes. The fact that I have any sense of humor left after arising yesterday morning is a tribute to something and I’m hoping to figure out what. I only got six hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, and then I saw a post on the Facebook that really taxed my ability to keep my mouth shut and not go for the jugular. But I did refrain doing that publicly, even though our handy-dandy stalker revealed her wacky little self on Facebook – apparently the dear girl had “friended” me at some point – if I’d actually looked at her page before accepting I would have known who it was instantly. She actually “friended” me under two similar names. I nuked her post, blocked both her names, but she’s also on on her own name so I suppose she can still see what I post – I don’t care really, my posts are public. I’m told I can make them just for friends, but then again she’s probably “friended” me under even more names. What a piece of work is this woman – so obsessed that she simply cannot stop trying to cause trouble, which, by the way (BTW in Internet lingo) she never does. How long has this been going on, like almost nine years now? How many places on the Internet has this woman followed me, how many usernames has she created (not to mention all the names she’s used here at haineshisway.com) – I just want to say one word to old Babs – karma. And you will get yours, oh, yes, you will get your karmic retribution. It happens. But she enjoys the attention so hope you’ve enjoyed this little paragraph about YOU, Babs.

In any case, I really had to bite my tongue to not publicly say anything, but as people would like you to think, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I think of it as imitation is the sincerest form of imitation. It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last. But the sheer blatant way this was stated was pretty astonishing, and I received several disbelieving e-mails. Nothing to be done about it, really, except perhaps buying some Bosco and Brylcreem.

After that bit of business, I made the pasta I had left over – about two-and-a-half cups of pasta – I turned that into Wacky Noodles and it was mighty filling and fine, not necessarily in that order. It was probably about four or five ounces of pasta all told, so under 1000 calories all in. I also had a very nice telephonic conversation with Cathy Rigby. Then the helper came and we did our Costco run. I now have a lot of water, a lot of Diet Coke (and even some Diet Dr. Pepper), some silly stuff like biscotti with dark chocolate (170 calories but they’re quite a nice size) and some more Halloween candy, since they have huge bags of it and the prices are much less than Gelson’s. We got some roses, too, the one bunch that actually smelled like roses. Roses just make me happy. Then we came back here and unpacked everything, then the helper went on her merry way.

I did some work on the computer, then did a three-and-a-half mile jog – I went the extra mile due to a little Wacky Noodles Guilt (WNG, in Internet lingo). Then I heard the Unsung Sherman Brothers master, which sounds quite good – now we just wait for the final three tracks, whose vocals we’re recording next Tuesday night. By that time the print will already be at the pressing plant and the completed master will be uploaded the following day and we should have discs about four days later.

It was already too late to watch anything, so I uploaded some CDRs I have into iTunes so I could hear them – just old LP transfers I did a few years ago of some fun albums I enjoy that haven’t been released on CD yet. And we had more orders, which was nice, including about ten more signed copies of Unsung Sherman Brothers. Then I just relaxed and played some of that music.

Today, I’ll be up by ten, I’ll write liner notes, eat, jog, hopefully pick up packages, buy new running shoes and tennis shoes, and then later in the evening I have a brief meeting.

Tomorrow is our second Kritzerland rehearsal, Friday I’m not sure what’s happening, Saturday is our stumble-through, and Sunday is sound check and show.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the rhumba, for today is the birthday of our very own dear reader JohnG.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader JohnG.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER JOHNG!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, eat, jog, hopefully pick up packages, buy new running shoes and new tennis shoes, and then have a brief meeting. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy in the knowledge that two iconic B products – Bosco and Brylcreem – are still with us after all these years.
