SIZZLING PARIS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for we are announcing our new title at six in the morning and I’m already really overtired and I can’t even go back to sleep because some fence people are coming to measure the fence in the yard for replacing – and by the time that’s done it will be too late to back to sleep. In any case, before we go any further, the new Kritzerland release is the delightfully delightful and effervescently effervescent score to the film Paris When it Sizzles, music by Nelson Riddle – a 2-CD set at a 1-CD price. It’s quite a fun score with beautiful themes and fun spoofs of movie themes, all done in the inimitable Nelson Riddle style. The first CD has the entire score, including “That Face” sung by Fred Astaire. The second CD has bonus and alternate tracks and then the original Reprise Records LP program, all in sparkling stereophonic sound. Here’s the cover.

So, Riddle me this – what in tarnation are you waiting for? Go order the damn thing. Yesterday was a day in which I did not get enough sleep, maybe five hours. Remember I’d had that calzone? Well, the red sauce, as happens pretty frequently these days, did not agree with me and I awoke at six feeling quite nauseously nauseous. I chewed a Pepcid, went back to bed but it took about ninety minutes to fall back asleep. And then there were the now-usual early telephonic calls that I had to take. Once up, I answered e-mails, wrote a bit, did a lot of Brain work, but really felt quite zombie-like. The helper came by briefly to pick up a few things. Then I went and picked up one returned package. I’d already decided not to jog because I’ve done so every day for almost four weeks and I just needed a day off. So, I tackled the hall CD closet with the classical CDs – I’m getting rid of quite a few things, and pulled out about twenty more things to put into iTunes. It’s really quite fun to listen to stuff I haven’t heard in over a decade probably. Some really great stuff – Satie, more Robert Ward, more Claus Ogerman, Jean-Michel Damase, Malcolm Arnold, Jerome Moross, several great CDs of American classical music, a wonderful Japanese composer named Ikuma Dan, English composer Gerarld Finzi, and other great stuff.

Then it was time for a quick Brain work session with our musical director. That went very well and then the Shermans arrived. We all assembled in my motor car and I drove us to the Bank of Bur to Tony’s Bella Vista for a nice Eyetalian meal. The one thing I knew in advance was no red sauce, even though I know their red sauce is not of the acidic trendy variety, but real tomato sauce made fresh. But I was safe and went with a small dinner salad, and my beloved spaghetti carbonara. I’ve never had it at Tony’s and I must tell you it was rather spectacular. It wasn’t too huge a portion either. Of course, I felt very guilty eating such a rich dish but I needn’t have – I checked out the calories and surprisingly it’s not terrible, about seven hundred, so I actually think I didn’t stray too far over 1000. After we ate, Richard did the signed musical quotes, and then we just had the best time yakking away, telling stories – we were there close to three hours. Our waitress LOVED us. It was just a wonderful evening any way you look at it, including sideways.

Then we came home, they went on their merry way, and I had to prep the release eBlast and get everything ready, whilst listening to more of the wonderful music I’ve been uploading.

Today, I may actually not get up at six – we’re talking about going live when these here notes go up – Doug is also way overtired. That way I don’t have to get up until eight-thirty for the fence person. Then I’ll write, definitely jog, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and then I am telling you I am not going – I’m just going to sit here like so much fish and relax.

Not sure what’s happening on Saturday and Sunday – may see a show on Sunday if the fancy strikes me, but I’ll definitely get some relaxing in. Next week is a lot of Brain stuff – meeting with the sound people, seeing if there’s any way to squeeze in one extra band rehearsal, figuring out what props we’ll have, same with costumes. There are also some meetings and meals to have.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, maybe not get up at six, hopefully print out a LOT of orders, jog, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, all this fun music I’m uploading. DVD, Mickey One. Blu-ray, Nightmare Castle. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to announce some sizzling Paris.
