THE SUNDAY BRUNCHEON

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I would say it was a Sunday like any other Sunday and yet it wasn’t a Sunday like any other Sunday because I got to go have a delightfully delightful bruncheon with Hayley Mills and her boyfriend, who’s a very nice chap. We talked about lots o’ stuff – her son’s concert, which apparently went very well, her doing the play Legends with her sister Juliet, and the book her boyfriend is working on. Since I love talking about writing, we talked a lot about that. I was a good boy and only had a little melon and a side of bacon, knowing I’d be having a big dinner later. Anyway, she’s just a wonderful, charming and warm person and I had a splendidly splendid time.

Prior to that I’d gotten eight hours of sleep with some of the weirdest dreams ever. I can’t even describe them they were so weird. They were so weird that they are weirdly indescribable. After the bruncheon I came home and did some work on the computer, watched a bit of a motion picture on the Flix of Net entitled Nevada Smith, starring Steve McQueen, a movie I surprisingly have never seen before, and then it was time for a dinner at Genghis Cohen.

I hadn’t been in a couple of months and it was, as always, great. It was the usual array of food – crackerjack shrimp, green beans, Kung Pao chicken and Orange Chicken extra crispy. I ate less than usual, especially the rice – only two small scoops of that. It was just grand food.

Then I came home and did a few more things on the computer, did a two-and-a-half mile jog (due to Genghis Cohen guilt), and listened to some music. It was a nice, relaxing ME day and I rather enjoyed it.

Now what? I’ve told the entire day in less than a page. How unseemly. What else can I talk about? I could talk about doing the Ocarina in Lichtenberg. Wow, that was a little obscure but then again, you can call me madam, you can call me Ishmael, you can call me irresponsible or you can just call me – one simply cannot have enough Call Me Madam references. I no longer have a clew as to what the HELL I’m going on about, but that has never stopped me before so let me continue.

I will tell you that I have just had a Diet Dr. Pepper and it was rather good. Because I don’t do anywhere near the soft drink intake I used to, I tend to just have my one or two Diet Cokes and leave it at that. But I occasionally like the joys of a Diet 7-UP or Diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Vernors. Why am I talking about diet sodas? Where is the damn substance in these here notes? There’s no damn substance. In fact I believe what we have here is substance abuse, this complete lack of substance. I mean, who gives a flying Wallenda about doing the Ocarina in Lichtenberg or what the HELL diet soda I am ingesting? And yet, here I prattle on and on about it because I wrote the first part of these here notes too damn fast and now I am left with empty space to fill with words and sentences and paragraphs of no worth whatsoever. I believe they call this vamping till ready.

Today is Columbus Day – I don’t know what that means anymore, as some take exception to Columbus having a Day, and some institutions observe it and some don’t. I will get singers the music for the Kritzerland show, I’ll write some liner notes, I’ll find out why the Unsung Sherman Brothers print is three days overdue, I’ll jog, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and then I’ll relax.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals and going and doing and doing and going and writing and deciding on which book to write and finessing the show order and commentary (because the November show is a repeat the commentary and order exist, but I’ve switched up a few things so I need to make adjustments), and I have a couple of things to see.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get singers music, write, jog, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite movies starring Steve McQueen – always one of my favorite actors. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a lovely bruncheon and a pleasant day all around.
