December 30, 2016:

DON’T RAIN ON MY PARADE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the countdown to 2017 continues and, as has been the case throughout this year and more times than I care to remember, every time I think I’m safe from irritants lo and behold and also behold and lo and e-mail arrives because the irritators just cannot stop, no matter what time of year it is or what the holiday season is. But all you can do is send strongly worded responses but the irritators can’t stop and must always have the last word. But the real last word rests with me because I simply nuke the final response without looking at it. You know what, irritators – and listen real carefully – don’t rain on my parade. Do NOT rain on my parade. My parade does not wish to be rained upon so keep your damn rain to your damn self and hey you get off of my cloud. 2016, in many ways, was a really good year – many accomplishments that I am VERY proud of, but at every turn it’s been a struggle to keep the eye on the prize – in that way, the year has been nothing but difficult and all one can do is pray that 2017 will not be that way, that 2017 will be a year of positivity with no raining on anyone’s damn parade. I has spoken.

Yesterday was one of those days – it was ambling along rather innocuously after the first irritant of the day, the obnoxious and incessant hammering. I only got six hours of sleep, but as soon as the hammerers took a break I got an additional two hours of sleep. The helper came by briefly, otherwise I just listened to music, all kinds of music. This kind of music, that kind of music, just catching up on all the stuff I’ve put into iTunes over the past few days. I picked up a couple of packages, but mostly I tried to relax. A screener arrived, something called Hidden Figures that I know nothing about. I’ll give it a look-see maybe this evening.

Then I got ready and at six I moseyed on over to Genghis Cohen to meet a mom and her son, said son who’ll be doing his first Kritzerland show in February. The food was great, although getting the orange chicken (extra crispy) right proved an ordeal and it was never what it usually is – I didn’t find out why until the check arrived – our waitress had accidentally asked for white meat – I do white meat for the Kung Pao but NEVER for the orange chicken. It was still good, but not as good as when it’s cooked the way they normally do it. We were there for about two hours, had lots o’ laughs – the restaurant was jammed – very unusual for a Thursday night, but I guess ‘tis the season for everyone to eat out every night. After dinner, I came right home, listened to more music, and relaxed, whilst letting my imagination roam about the new book thing. Of course, I’m stuffed to the gills, having made a right pig of myself at dinner, although I’ve certainly eaten more and there was quite a bit to be boxed up (they took the leftovers).

Today, I hope the damn hammerers are gone or not doing their dirty business too early. I’ll choose the final duet song and get everyone their music – some of the kids already have theirs. I’ll eat something VERY light, I’ll hopefully pick up packages, and I’m sure I’ll watch a motion picture.

Tomorrow I just relax, then we have our annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Bash, which you won’t want to miss. I’ll do my usual New Year’s Eve thing before midnight, and then we’ll watch our various and sundried balls drop and we’ll ring in the New Year together, whilst I open the champagne and have my yearly sip. And then, the following morning I begin a new book adventure. I may have a few people over later in the afternoon, just for some nice New Year’s cheer. We shall see.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, choose the final duet and get folks their music, eat something light, hopefully pick up packages, and then watch something or other. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, endless music. DVD, whatever screener. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, reiterating this simple axiom: Don’t rain on my parade.
