THE SMOOTHER SECOND REHEARSAL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the second Kritzerland rehearsal was much smoother than the first – everyone did what they needed to do and we’re in very good shape. I gave a few random notes here and there and we had the added bonus of Bill Hayes, who’s singing The Christmas Song – what a delight he is at ninety-one years young. So, now we do our stumble-through tomorrow.

Prior to that rehearsal, I’d gotten almost eight hours of sleep and would have gotten a bit more had the incessant hammering and noise from yet another monstrosity being built next to the unsold monstrosity to the east of me not been so damnably loud. I got up around ten, did the usual morning things – answered e-mails and, more importantly, printed out orders – this title is doing a bit better than the last couple of Fox film musicals, so that’s good. And I’m hoping the orders keep coming in. At some point I went and had a cup of chicken soup and some chicken tenders – one thing I’ve learned about the latter at Jerry’s Deli is they’re either great or gross – this batch bordered on gross but was still edible, so I edded it all up. There were no packages to pick up, so I came home.

I printed out a few more orders, listened to some music, and then it was time for our rehearsal, which you’ve already heard about that. Once that was done, which wasn’t until around seven-fifteen, I printed out a few more orders, then went to Gelson’s and got a tiny bit of seafood salad for my snack, came home and ate it all up whilst doing some work on the computer. I’m trying to decide whether to down some Ny-Quil tonight or not, since I can’t really sleep in. First off, there will be the incessant hammering, but I also have a ten-thirty meeting, so will have to be up at least an hour before that and if I Ny-Quil I’ll be way too groggy to be of any help.

Today, I shall be up by nine-thirty at the latest and then have a ten-thirty meeting, as mentioned above. I have no idea how long that will last. When that’s done, I may grab something light to eat. Then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’d love to do a jog, and then I’m seeing John Boswell’s nightclub show at the Gardenia – I’m attending with Kay Cole and we’ll sup there.

Tomorrow I can maybe sleep in a bit, then at two we have our stumble-through and after that I’m seeing Waiting for Lefty at LACC. I really don’t like to go out the night before one of our shows, but I promised I’d see it and should have last week, but tomorrow night is the only time I can make it work.

Sunday is our sound check and show and I will, of course, have a full report for you. Monday I’m hoping to relax a bit, then Tuesday we have a rehearsal with sound and lights for the Richard Sherman event, Wednesday we do a sound check at three-thirty, then we’ll have some food, then we do the event. Then on Thursday or Friday I’ll go to my engineer’s new house to work on Kay’s CD.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a meeting, eat something light, jog, hopefully pick up some packages, hopefully print out more orders, and then I’ll see a cabaret show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – I have no idea anymore. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a smoother second rehearsal.
