2016 Robby Award Winners Announced by Rob Stevens

IMG_2815

Thirty-three awards were spread among sixteen shows in the just announced 2016 Robby Awards for Excellence in Theatre. McCoy Rigby Entertainment, which led all producing entities with 34 nominations, received a total of seven awards. Their production of Dreamgirls led all shows with four wins while their The Hunchback of Notre Dame won three awards, including the Teri Ralston Award for Best Musical Production. South Coast Repertory won six awards, three each for their productions of Amadeus and All The Way, which won the Nan Martin Award for Best Drama Production. Antaeus Theatre Company won five awards, three for Cloud 9, including the Carole Cook Award for Best Comedy Production, and two for Hedda Gabler. Celebration Theatre’s The Boy From Oz also won three awards. As usual with the Robby Awards, there were ties in some categories (Best Actress in a Musical and Best Actor in a Drama) as well as a rare three-way tie which occurred in the category of Best Supporting Actress in a Musical. This is the 31st year the Robby Awards have been chosen by longtime Southern California theatre reviewer Rob Stevens.

A complete list of nominees follows with the winners in each category highlighted.
