January 3, 2017:

FIRST PERSON IS IT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this year is flying by, like a gazelle shopping at the Dollar Tree. Speaking of the Dollar Tree, I had my first visit there last evening, after a dinner with a friend. It’s quite an interesting store. They have some fascinating items for one dollar. I’m not sure anyone needs any of them, but if you’re looking for, for example, fifteen dollars’ worth of candy for five dollars, it’s pretty good. They have a large thing of Comet for a dollar – that’s pretty good. I can’t say I need to return, but it was fun to see how the 99-Cent store has evolved.

Yesterday was quite a lovely day. I got eight hours of sleep, maybe even a bit more because I actually managed to fall asleep by one-thirty. I’m trying to not stay up until three every morning. So, the plan is to be in bed by twelve-thirty or one at the latest. Once I was up, I did the usual morning stuff – answered e-mails, printed out a few e-mails, and got myself coherent. Then I futzed and finessed the previous day’s writing. Just reading it I knew that first person was absolutely right, but Muse Margaret called and we talked about it and she, like me, felt my first instinct was correct. Once I finished futzing and finessing I then wrote three new pages. Then I took a break and did a few other things, then wrote four more pages for a total of seven. Then I took another break and relaxed, got ready for dinner, and wrote another page, for a total of eight.

We went to Jerry’s Deli, which was really crowded – it’s never crowded at dinnertime, and yet it was. I had my first food of the day – a bacon and cheese omelet and an English muffin, and some fruit bits. When I got home from the Dollar Tree, I wrote almost two more pages, so almost eleven pages and I got through a fun part and am now moving towards the big finish of the first chapter, which will probably occur in about seven to ten more pages, which is a very long first chapter for me, but you get a LOT of information in it. After that, I just relaxed some more and that was that.

Today, I’ll be up by ten, I’ll write, I’ll make a show order, I’ll perhaps start writing the commentary for the February show, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll write some more, and then perhaps watch a motion picture.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals, writing every day, I have an invite to something on Thursday night, but that will depend on how much writing I’ve gotten done that day, and whatever else comes up that needs doing.

Oh, Unsung Sherman Brothers won a Golden Bonus Disc Award at The Second Disc yesterday as one of the best albums of 2016. That was lovely and a nice thing to happen so early in 2017.

Oh, and L.A. Now and Then won an Eddon Award for Unique/Special Event, from the Broadway World reviewer. That was nice, too.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, make a show order, write commentary, jog (weather permitting – weather wasn’t permitting yesterday – we’ll see if it is today), eat, hopefully pick up some packages, write, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite stores to shop in? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have realized that the first person is it.
