RIP DEAR READER KERRY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, yesterday was a perfectly fine day save for one bit of absolutely not fine news – the death of a dear reader. We’ve lost dear readers before, but dear reader Kerry Hughes was a wonderful presence here at haineshisway.com. He came to Los Angeles a couple of times to join our get-togethers, he and then partner Lyn (formerly MusicGuy here). He’d send me fun e-mails from time to time and was a very loyal hainsie/kimlet. It was a shock to hear about his passing, given his young age. I know he knew we all adored him and I hope he’s resting comfortably wherever he’s gone. RIP, dear reader Kerry.

Otherwise yesterday was a rather productive day as yesterdays go. I think I got just under eight hours of sleep, had weird but not unpleasant dreams, and finally got out of bed. I answered e-mails, had telephonic calls, and then made two low-calorie no-fat hot dogs (total calories 350 for the two), did some work on the computer, and saw the helper for a few minutes. Then it was time for my meeting with Kay Cole about the act we’re creating for her. That lasted about ninety minutes and was productive as all get out and I think we all know how productive all get out is. After that, I relaxed, then got ready to attend our first set of auditions for Dial ‘M’ for Murder.

We saw about ten or eleven people, I think. It all went very swimmingly and we saw some excellent candidates for all but one role. I’m hoping we see some folks for that one role soon. I chose long scenes for the actors to read, so they could get over the initial uncomfortable part of reading. We were there about two hours or so and that was that. I came directly home, had some of those frozen mini-taco things for my snack – calorie intake for the day was certainly under 1300, so that’s good. My allergies are really strong this year and I have to be very careful of my voice when that happens. The Claritin D is working but not as long or as well as it usually does. I think I’m going to pick up some of the 24-hour version and see if that helps any. I’m taking all my preventatives, of course, as that’s what I do these days to be safe.

Today I can just catch up on a few things, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and definitely do some work on the computer. Then we have more auditions, although just two people coming tonight.

Tomorrow is our long LACC audition day and a meeting with my set designer for the Sherman Brothers musical. Saturday we have three hours of auditions, I think, and Sunday I get to have a nice, long visit with Richard Sherman. Then we have our long Kritzerland rehearsal week, during which I’m not only doing that stuff but prepping a lot of other stuff, having callbacks for Dial ‘M’ and meetings and meals.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, I’ll eat, hopefully pick up packages, audition, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Memories of Dear Reader Kerry, please. And please, take care of yourselves – we treasure all our dear readers and we don’t want to lose any more.
