Jon Armstrong: Comic Amazement reviewed by Rob Stevens

Harry Houdini, David Copperfield, Criss Angel and even Penn & Teller didn’t appear at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. But several other magicians did mount shows during the month long festival. I only managed to catch one show and that was on the final day and I sure am glad I did. It turned out to be a very welcome change of pace. Jon Armstrong: Comic Amazement was a fun-filled hour of legerdemain and humor. Armstrong kept his audience laughing with his self-deprecating humor and enthralled with his magic skills. As with most Fringe shows, this one was a low budget affair. There were no Chinese Linking Rings; instead there were Staples linking rubber bands. There was no scantily clad female assistant; instead Armstrong enlisted nearly every member of the audience to help demonstrate his magic tricks. It was a very entertaining show and as a former accountant, I am still puzzled and amazed at the several tricks with numbers Armstrong pulled off. If he wants it, I’m sure he could have a very successful career as a Psychic Accountant.
