THE MYSTERY OF THE NO NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, a funny thing happened on the way to yesterday’s notes – they never showed up. I arrived home around 12:40 and wrote the notes. Check. I then thought I went and cut and pasted them into the form I use and hit “publish.” But when I awoke this morning after nine hours of sleep (I didn’t go to bed until three), the notes weren’t there, the topic of the day hadn’t been changed, and the world was in chaos. I got them posted right away and changed the topic then tried to figure out what actually happened. And here’s what I think actually happened: I think I wrote the notes, then got distracted by some e-mail or something on the Internet – something got my attention and I was tired so I probably thought I’d posted them and changed the topic, but nooooooo, that was not the case and we had no notes, although some might say that no notes is good notes. Of course, if someone said that we would have to brain them, as it would be clear they had no brain, not even one from Planet X.

Aside from that, yesterday wasn’t too bad a day as days go. I answered e-mails, got the good news that we are finally cast and what a cast it is, actually. So now I can finish the song choices and get everyone their music on Monday, so that’s a big load off. And everyone still has two full weeks to get it all down and in several cases the singers are doing songs they already know. I relaxed and did a few things on the computer, had a telephonic conversation, did some work at the piano, then went and had a little one-person pepperoni pizza that really hit the spot. Then I picked up no packages or mail and came home. I listened to music, first at the computer, and then sitting on my couch like so much fish, where I listened to the Bernstein Mahler ninth in SACD – beautiful-sounding but not my favorite performance of that gorgeous music. I prefer Bruno Walter. I wasn’t really in the mood to watch anything so I didn’t watch anything, as I wasn’t in the mood.

I went to Gelson’s and got a couple of drumettes and a teeny-tiny bit of seafood salad for my evening snack. I came home and ate that and then had a variety of low-calorie low-fat ice creams for my sweet tooth. And that was pretty much it. It was the kind of day I needed and it was also the kind of night I needed.

Oh, I’m not really posting videos from our shows anymore due to people thinking they can miss shows and just see videos, but I have three to share today and share them I shall.  First up is little powerhouse Hayley Shukiar singing Opportunity from Levi – the first preview of any song from this show.  Additional fun provided by the gentleman who hands her her trumpet.

I’ve only twice in my life been commissioned to write a song.  Here is the first of those commissions – you’ve heard this before but not sung by its composer/lyricist.  I would like this to became a go-to wedding song, frankly.

And finally, the second song I was ever commissioned to write, by the Shukiar family for a tribute to dad/husband Cantor David Shukiar – this was performed once at the event/tribute to him so I thought it would be fun for them to do it for the Kritzerland audience – and it was.  That’s Hayley, Carly, and Leasa (mom) Shukiar.

Today, I’m not seeing the Shermans – that’s been postponed until tomorrow or Tuesday, as Richard wants to rest up for another day. So, I’ll try to get all the song choices done, and maybe even make a show order, but mostly I want to relax. Although I still have a tiny bit of work to do on the Levi script and I may attend to that. I’ll eat some Wacky Noodles, definitely listen to music and then watch something fun, and that will be that.

This week is very busy – meetings and meals, seeing Richard Sherman, starting to get everything organized for our little Levi Indiegogo campaign, getting the Kritzerland show announced and tickets on sale, shipping Fuller at Fox, prepping the next Kritzerland release and getting that announced mid-week, making a final choice on costume designer, figuring out which three men I’m going to bring in for Levi – we’re actually going to try and bring back alums for it, if we have the right types to do so. I know I have other things going on and hopefully I’ve written them all down because I really need to keep these things straight. We do have a work session for the Kritzerland show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, choose songs, do some Levi work, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that the notes finally got posted and that the mystery of the no notes is kind of sort of maybe solved.
