THE VIDEO VIEWING PARTY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here was the fun part of yesterday and yes there was a fun part of yesterday – it was the part that was fun and not stressful. The fun began with the arrival of Jenna Lea Rosen who ran her number for next Monday’s Robby Awards. She was followed by Marc Ginsburg, who rehearsed his number for the Robby Awards, sadly not from Levi, which would bring down the house (if he did his final number), but a quieter song from The Scarlet Pimpernel. It was fun to see them both, along the musical director Richard Allen. As Marc and I were yakking, the Shermans arrived, so it was nice that Richard was able to reiterate how much he loved Marc’s performance in Levi.

Then the Shermans and I got into the motor car and I drove us to the editing room to see the video we were going to view. Already there was Larry Cohen, our editor, our tech guy, and Larry’s actress friend Laureen Landon, star of the cult movie, Hundra, and someone who has worked with Larry quite a few times. We all sat down and the video began and it was a wonderful time for all, reliving what we’d done back in November. The video looked and sounded great. We’re going to do one more thing to it, which involves adding some text to one sequence – the one sequence that for me did not come off when we did the show, due to several things, a sequence I’ve since revised so that it’s very clear as to what’s going on. That’s why we do these shows – to see what works and what doesn’t. The idea was right, but it just didn’t have staging clarity or clarity in what it was supposed to achieve. But since we can’t have the written stuff I’ve done, we’re going to use text to explain what’s going on and what the actual event was.

But lots o’ laughs in the room, the authors always get emotional about various and sundried things, and I was very pleased with how the whole thing came out. Then after we were through, we all moseyed on over to Tony’s Bella Vista for dinner. That was the most fun part of the day and evening. We laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again. Laureen is very randy and so we all had fun with that. Richard really loves the food at Tony’s – he had spaghetti and meat balls, Elizabeth had some chicken parm, Larry had lasagna, Laureen had what she described as one ball in sauce, and I can’t remember what our tech guy and editor had. I, of course, had a small salad and their amazing carbonara. We were there just under two hours. Then I drove Elizabeth and Richard back here and they moseyed on home. It was great, as always, to see them again.

I got eight hours of sleep due to the alarm not going off, answered e-mails, and got ready for the events of the day and our two rehearsals.

After I got home, the book went live at Kritzerland and is available for pre-orders. As always, signed copies will come with a little extra something or other. Here’s the direct link that will take you directly to the order page.

Then I just relaxed, had a telephonic call, and pondered the behavior of certain people who baffle me endlessly. I pondered but then my mind wandered and that was that.

Today, I’ll be lunching with Grant and his mom (his mom was the inspiration for me writing the new book – it’s not her story at all, but the nature of someone her age and that long a life was appealing to me), and then I have to finish making a show order, hopefully pick up some packages, and then I’ll begin writing the commentary.

The weekend is unknown to me, but I’m sure something will be happening. Of course, I’ll finish writing the commentary and get ready for the Robby Awards on Monday. That’s going to be a crazy day that starts early with a Costco run. Then we have sound check and then it’s show time. I’m co-hosting it so I’ve been preparing some stuff to say.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Frug, for today is the birthday of dear reader Druxy.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Druxy.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER DRUXY!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, lunch, hopefully pick up packages, finish the show order, write commentary, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, any number of things classical. Blu and Ray, don’t know. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had such a fun video viewing party.
