THE DAY I NEITHER LIKED NOR DISLIKED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Delius, not Delius himself, as he passed away in 1934, but the music of Delius.  I bought a lot of Delius back in the day when one simply bought a lot of Delius.  I played it, it wasn’t as good, I thought then, as Vaughan Williams or Finzi or my other favorites.  So, I’m trying to listen now and see if I like it better – playing now is his Florida Suite and I must say it’s kind of delightful, a sweet suite.  So, this will be interesting, as I have many Delius CDs to go through and go through them I shall.  I must say that most of the other stuff I listened to yesterday wasn’t much to my liking.

Yesterday was neither to my liking or disliking. It was just kind of there, like a mustard plaster in Pomona.  I did get close to eight hours of sleep, got up, did some fixes to a chart, then answered e-mails and such.  Then I went to Gelson’s, found nothing interesting, then to Taco Bell where I got less than I usually do.  I came home and ate it all up, listened to some music, then got a new track to proof. I did, asked for a slightly slower tempo and a slightly simpler orchestration – nothing major.  Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on the Flix of Net entitled The Boy.  I was ready to hate it and turn it off, but I ended up enjoying it.  It’s a very weird movie but decently directed and acted, with a good score and a creepy premise.  There are a few too many jump scares, but as these things go it wasn’t wretched.  Naturally most reviewers hated it, but a handful felt as I did – that it was well done for what it was and that it had good pace and didn’t overstay its welcome. I wouldn’t want to give anything away so if your interest is piqued then give it a look-see and see what you think.

After that, I watched the first thirty minutes of Coco, the newest Pixar film.  I didn’t have any desire to see it – the title didn’t interest me and it wasn’t that much on my radar, even though I knew people really liked it.  I was worried that it would be yet another tween female empowerment movie and I’m just so bored of those.  But of course it’s not that at all and of course I was pretty much hooked immediately because the storytelling is clever and fun.  I hope it sustains itself because thus far it’s quite good.

Then I relaxed, had a few pieces of chocolate licorice, got the revised track and approved it, so there’s now just one more to do and it’s really short, just two verses.  There will ultimately be dance music but we don’t need that right now. So, thankfully I think we’ll pretty much have everything we’ll need for our private reading, that is if my voice comes fully back, which it better.  I listened to more music and then began the Delius expedition.

Today, I must cast our three females for the Kritzerland show – I did cast one of our males yesterday, so that’s done, and I may end up with two females and a couple of young performers – this show is suited for that.  I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up a couple of packages, then I’ll relax a bit, then if I’m feeling up to it I’m going to see a cabaret class at a college – the show they’ve been working on.

The rest of the week is Kritzerland show stuff, prepping a new release, although I don’t think I’ll announce until next week, attending an opening night, having a work session with someone for the reading, and whatever else comes up.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, cast, eat, hopefully pick up packages, relax, and attend a cabaret show at a school should I feel up to it. Today’s topic of discussion: Favorite Pixar films – and the ones you think aren’t all that.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having had a day I neither liked nor disliked.
