ON THE MEND AND HAPPY REHEARSALS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, first things first – I am feeling a bit better as I write these here notes.  I’m not over this whatever-it-is yet, but my raw and weird throat is much better right now and hopefully will stay that way.  What was most helpful was getting well over ten hours of sleep.  I had taken just Ny-Quil before bed and while it took a bit of time to kick in, once I finally fell asleep I was pretty much out for the entire time, save for about five visits to the loo because of drinking so much liquid.

Once up, I was very groggy and foggy and froggy, but I just sat around listening to music and relaxing.  I took a Sambucol and Airborne just because I think that stuff ultimately helps somehow. Eventually I went to pick up a package and then stopped at Jerry’s Deli to take home a bowl of matzoh ball soup and a bagel.  I came home and ate that all up and it was very soothing and helpful, I must say. Then it was more music listening and relaxing, then I got ready and finally moseyed on over to the theater for our seven o’clock rehearsal.

We began by reviewing our opening number – it wasn’t too bad, and we ran it two or three more times, I added a little something to it, and then I began to barrel on from there.  By the end of the evening I’d gotten to page twenty-three or thereabouts – the script is only seventy-four pages or so, so that was quite a nice chunk to get done. I’m just getting it all on its feet and then when I go back I’ll finesse and detail it.  I got through the big part of the Christmas past sequence, so the rest from there is pretty simple as it’s just two people either talking or singing. Our leading man has lost his voice completely so it’s really hard to do the scenes.  Hopefully he’ll have it back by Monday, but tonight’s rehearsal will be difficult because it’s all him and our leading lady.  But at least I can get the blocking down so that I keep moving forward.  I’m hoping to get at least ten to fifteen pages done, and more if possible.  I’m already instilling pace in everyone and I’m rather fond of our cast.

After rehearsal, I stopped at Gelson’s to get some Diet Coke and bagels, then came right home.  I’d gotten some chicken salad at Jerry’s to go earlier and I had some of that on a bagel – very good.  Then it was more music and relaxing.  I’ll take some Ny-Quil soon after I post these here notes.

Today, I shall sleep in again, relax, get some matzoh ball soup, hopefully pick up packages, then just rest until it’s time to go to rehearsal.  We’ll review, then I’ll mush on and get as much done as possible.

Then I have four days to really get better.  I will not push myself and only do work I need to do.  I don’t really have any plans to speak of.  I think I’ll keep up the regime of matzoh ball soup because I think it really helps.  Then next week I’ll hopefully be all better because it is my plan to have all blocking finished by Wednesday or Thursday so we can then begin running the show, no matter how rough.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in, relax, get some matzoh ball soup, hopefully pick up packages, relax, and have a rehearsal.  Today’s topic of discussion: I think I missed Ask BK day yesterday, so… It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be on the mend and having fun rehearsals.
