December 28, 2018:

THE DECENTLY DECENT DAY THAT WAS DECENT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, getting to these here notes late, but such are the vagaries of the vagaries.  I am listening to music, if that’s of any interest to anyone.  I am chewing on my shirt, if that’s of any interest to anyone.  In any case, I suppose I should write some damn notes, shouldn’t I?

Yesterday was a surprisingly okay day.  I only got six hours of sleep due to only getting six hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, and then got in the motor car and moseyed on over to have an early luncheon with dear reader Jeanne.  We went to her favorite jernt, John O’Groats.  We both had their excellent fish and chips which consisted of fish and chips.  They do have very good tartar sauce there and let’s face it, it’s all in the tartar sauce. We had a nice conversation, which consisted of a nice conversation, and then we went on our merry way, she to her home and me back to the Valley and a brief stop at the mail place to pick up one package (streamer sticks for our final weekend of shows), and then I came directly home directly.

Once here, I actually avoided drama and actually had some decent news, which was decent.  Then I did some work on the computer, listened to music, had some telephonic calls, and tried to relax a bit.  At some point I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a DGA screener entitled If Beale Street Could Talk, a film based on the novel by James Baldwin.  I really knew nothing about it, but I was quite taken with the film.  The writer/director is Barry Jenkins, who did Moonlight. This one is very stylistically interesting, beautifully photographed, well-paced, and the story certainly held my interest, although my interest didn’t feel like holding the story.  The acting by everyone was terrific, and I should think an Oscar nomination would be in order for the lead gal, Kiki Layne, who is luminous and wonderful, not necessarily in that order.  Well worth seeing and I recommend it highly, just because I can.

After that, I felt I should eat a little something, so I made about four ounces of spaghetti, with mushrooms and red onion sautéed in butter.  It was very good.  I had some Cherry Loaf, too.

After that, it was more telephonic conversations, and then listening to more music.  And that was my day and that was my evening.

Today, I’ll sleep in, hopefully avoid drama and lay low, and then I’m supping with Sami and her mom at five-thirty.  I’ll leave there around 6:40 and be on my way to the theater to make sure everything there is in order.  I know several folks coming.  I think I’ll be able to sit with Sami and her mom.  After the show, the Wechters and I will go out for a bite – so I’ll either eat a light dinner and snack after, or a heavier dinner, and a tiny snack after, perhaps dessert.

Tomorrow I also will hopefully avoid drama and lay low.  She of the Evil Eye comes so I’ll go do things whilst she does things, and then I’ll come home and make a batch of tuna pasta salad for the cast partay on Sunday.  Then we play our second to last show.  I’m told the numbers are light for tomorrow night and frankly I do not believe it because every time I’m told that we have many more people than the light number.  Then Sunday we play our final show – that one will be sold out.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in, hopefully avoid drama and lay low, sup with Sami and mom, see our show, then snack with the Wechters after.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, lots o’ stuff.  DVD, more DGA screeners.  Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a decently decent day that was decent.
