LISTENING PARTY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had a fun second rehearsal, everyone was pretty up on their material, and I think it’s going to be a fun show.  The two What Ifs in the show are pretty funny, and I also do two – one to demonstrate the concept, and one in the middle of the show, just for fun – both mine are very short.  This is a wonderful cast.

Prior to that, I got nine hours of necessary sleep.  Once up, I answered e-mails, had some telephonic conversations, and decided I wasn’t going out, save for grabbing some fast food at McDonald’s.  I went there around noon-thirty, came home and ate my three selections up.  Then I began choosing some of the songs for the May Kritzerland and got some of that sheet music – just trying to get a jump on things.  I listened to quite a lot of music, which is always a pleasant way of spending some of one’s day.  I wasn’t in the mood to watch anything either, after all of that Aquarius malarkey.  I also brought some boxes out to the garage, boxes that had piled up in the den behind a chair.  It’s so nice when it’s perfectly clean.  Then I got ready for our rehearsal.

The rehearsal lasted almost three hours.  I gave a few staging things, nothing major, made a one-word lyric adjustment in the opening What If, sang through my two bits, and that was that.

Then I needed a snack so I had some low-fat Cheez-Its, a couple of caramels, and a handful of what is it, Swedish fish, all fun and light.  Then it was yet more music, mostly the wonderful film music of the Brit composer, Benjamin Frankel.  Great stuff, especially Curse of the Werewolf and Night of the Iguana. That was followed by a lot of Georges Auric film music – Auric was one of the greats and his score for the French classic, The Beauty and the Beast, is a masterpiece of film scoring, simply brilliant.  I’ve really been enjoying my listening parties these past few days.  And of course I relaxed, oh, yes, I relaxed.

Today is a ME day, all ME all the time.  I’ll sleep in, choose more songs, eat something fun of my own making, hopefully pick up some packages, and then I’ll watch a couple of motion picture entertainments, just because I can.  I’ll read through the commentary and make any adjustments I deem necessary and I’m sure I’ll listen to more music, too.

Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye will be here bright and early so I’ll have to go do some stuff in the morning.  Our stumble-through is at three, but one of our performers is coming early at two-fifteen to run her numbers.  After the stumble-through, I’m sure some of us will grab a bite to eat. Then I can relax, rest my voice, and watch and listen, not necessarily in that order.  Sunday I can sleep in, then relax until it’s time to get ready, then mosey on over to Vitello’s for sound check and then show.  I’m sure some of us will eat something afterwards, too.  Next week, I have to cast one more person for the May show, a guest star to just do two numbers, I have to finish choosing the songs, I have a lot of meetings and meals, another workshop at the Group Rep, so it will be a busy little week.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a ME day, sleep in, choose songs, eat, hopefully pick up packages, watch something, listen to music, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, lots of stuff I brought in from the garage.  DVD, Beware, My Lovely.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, enjoying my listening party.
