THE HAPPY STUMBLE-THROUGH AND A HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us a fun stumble-through yesterday. Everyone had pretty much gotten their material down, so it ran rather smoothly.  There were lots o’ laughs, the What If went over great, but everything worked well, including the structure.  One number in particular was extremely moving and I can’t tell you about that one until tomorrow’s notes, because it’s a surprise.  There were really only a couple of very minor lyric fumfers and I had very few notes at the end.  I made a couple of adjustments to things, added a little comic bit to one number, and smoothed out a couple of things.

Prior to that, I’d gotten very little sleep, maybe four hours. She of the Evil Eye arrived, I did stuff on the computer for a little while, and then I moseyed on over to Jerry’s Deli and had some matzoh brei and fruit – very light and only around three hundred calories.  Then I picked up a few packages, then came back home.  I listened to some music and relaxed, then shaved and showered, and then everyone arrived for the stumble-through.

After the stumble-through, I went over to Taco Bell and got two of their burrito things, which brought my calories up to 1100 for the day.  I had no sweets at all.  Then I went over the commentary, made a few futzes and finesses, and printed it out. Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on the Flix of Net with the unwieldy title of Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, a motion picture about serial killer Ted Bundy.  Only a few months ago I’d watched the documentary about the Bundy tapes. This one was based on a book by Bundy’s wife (actually, I don’t know if they ever were married), and starred Zac Efron as Bundy and Lily Collins as his girlfriend/wife or whatever she was.  I thought the writing was pretty okay, the direction was strictly from hunger, but Efron was surprisingly good and I really like Lily Collins a lot.  After Bundy is in jail, a co-worker is very sweet to Lily Collins and I kept thinking the kind of heavyset actor looked familiar.  And then I saw the credits and knew why – it was Haley Joel Osment from The Sixth Sense, all grown up.  Anyway, it moved right along and I kind of liked it in a way, save for the poor direction.

After that, I listened to more music, relaxed, had a telephonic conversation and that was pretty much it.

Today, I’ll sleep in, then I’ll relax and rest my voice.  I’ll shave and shower and get ready, then I’ll mosey on over to Vitello’s for sound check and then we do our show.  Afterwards, I know some of us will go downstairs to eat. I will, of course, have a full report.  I’m hoping we’ll get at least a few more people coming, but we’re close to sixty as it is, but that was at six, so we’ll see what happens.  Last time, we got quite a few reservations on show day and that would be nice.  Oh, and a very happy Cinco de Mayo to one and all and also all and one.

Tomorrow, I have an early lunch meeting, then I come right home to have a run-through of the musical revue.  Tuesday, I’ll relax until it’s time for sound check, then we play our revue.  The rest of the week is meetings and meals, and hoping for some goodness this week – for me and for all you dear readers – we all could use some goodness.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Twist, for today is the birthday of our very own dear reader George.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader George.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER GEORGE!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in, relax and rest my voice, shave and shower, have a sound check and do a show, then sup.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them.  So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy for a happy stumble-through and hoping for a good show tonight on this Cinco de Mayo.
