LATE-NIGHT MUSICAL INSPIRATION

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I must now write these notes in a hurry for lateness in notes is most unseemly.  The reason they are late is simple: I took a lyric to the piano at about eleven, just to see if I could make it work and if anything came to me, musically.  And something did, so I spent the next hour and ten minutes figuring it all out – had to move one section of lyrics so that it made sense musically and built properly, but it’s really cute and funky and I like it.  I may go back after writing the notes and try to record it straight through.  I record as I complete each section, so I don’t have it all together yet.  So, now to the notes.

Yesterday was just the kind of day I needed – quiet, unassuming, relaxing.  I got eight hours of sleep, maybe a bit more.  I answered e-mails, went and picked up a package, then got pizza from the local pizza jernt, came home and ate my slices, which were excellent.  Then I did some work on the computer, whilst listening to music.  I had a brief visit from a brief visitor, then I sat on my couch like so much fish and promptly fell asleep for about forty-five minutes.

Then I finished watching Godzilla Raids Again, a film about Godzilla raiding again.  It’s just about the worst Godzilla movie from that era and the terrible transfer did it no favors.  Then I watched a bit of King Kong vs. Godzilla – that transfer is the same as the Universal Blu-ray and is fine.  I checked out several other transfers, which really are mediocre, thus far.

Then it was back to the computer and reading through some script pages and writing up four pages of notes for the authors.  It’s coming right along.  Then I relaxed for a bit, then was intending to write these here notes early when I had my musical inspiration and the rest you know.  So, once these are posted, I’ll record one straight through, then shower and relax.

Today, I can sleep in a bit, then I have to prepare for tonight’s rehearsal and act three.  I’ll eat something fun, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and I’ll try to relax a bit before moseying on over to the theater.  Once there, we’ll run act two and hopefully everyone will remember what they did, because my assistant director, who has the blocking bible, isn’t with us on Monday nights.  I do remind everyone constantly to write stuff down, so we’ll see how that goes. Then we’ll mush on to act three and see if we can get at least half of it done, if not more.

Tomorrow, I think I have a meeting and meal, then rehearsal, where we’ll review and then finish act three, if we haven’t.  Wednesday, I have a lunch meeting, then we’ll start assembling the show.  Thursday, I have also have a lunch meeting, and then we’ll finish assembling the show.  Friday we’re off, so that’s a day of rest.  The plan on Saturday is to have a stumble-through the entire show, then run whatever is problematic, and from then on it’s run-throughs at every rehearsal.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in a bit, prepare, eat, hopefully pick up packages, relax, rehearse, review, and mush on, then come home and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite Japanese monster (or kaiju) films?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had late-night musical inspiration.
