THE DO IS DONE AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL AND ALL AND ONE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, let me just state the obvious: MERRY CHRISTMAS!  Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, MERRY CHRISTMAS!  I hope Santa was good to all of you, but more importantly I wish all of you the most excellent vibes and xylophones for a beautiful day.

Yesterday was, of course, the Day of the Do and it began like any other day, with me arising at eleven-thirty after six-and-a-half hours of sleep, due to watching some of the Blu-ray stack to check out transfers.  Once up, I answered e-mails, and then I began the preparation of the spaghetti sauce.  That took some time, but it went pretty quickly due to have prepared everything the night before.  And then it was simply a matter of simmering and stirring, not necessarily in that order.

Then I made a quick trip to the mail place and picked up a few packages and came right back home.  One of the packages was the new bar stool to replace the falling-apart, rickety thing that was driving me batty.  Grant was nice enough to come by and assemble it – took about fifteen minutes and it’s so nice to have a sturdy and comfortable chair to sit in at the computer.  Then I shaved and showered, stirred, put the finishing touches on the tuna pasta salad, and then awaited the arrival of the Do guests.  As I’ve mentioned, I never really know how many will show up and we did, in fact, have a few less than last year due to some sick spouses.  But it was a very nice group, including Adryan Russ (first to arrive, sans sick hubby Dale), Marshall Harvey, Joanna Erdos, Doug, Dorathy, and daughter Hartley, Kay Cole (sans sick hubby Michael), Sami and her mom, artist Jimmy Mulligan who drove Elizabeth and Richard Sherman (was so happy to see them and have them here – this is about about their tenth Do), dear readers Amy and Mark, Robert Yacko, and Leslie and her two daughters, Mia and Alexa, Richard Allen and his wife, Grant, Lydia, and daughter Greer, and Alby Potts.  Lots of fun conversation, much spaghetti eaten, much sauce consumed, lots of tuna pasta salad eaten, and there were tons of desserts, including a kind of coffee cake, a bundt cake, peanut butter pie, cookies, cupcakes, and other things I can’t remember.

Funnily, everyone mostly stuck to the living room this time, rather than spread out into the den.  Everyone began leaving around 9:45. It was a really fun Do, and frankly I can’t imagine a Christmas Eve without one.  It’s pretty amazing we’ve been doing the Do for thirty years now.

After everyone left, I put all the folding chairs away and cleaned up everything but the sauce pot and pasta pot.  I had a bit more spaghetti (I’d only had one tiny helping) and a bit more tuna pasta salad.  I used willpower to not have more desserts, although I’d only had a sliver of the peanut butter pie, which was extremely yummilicious.  I sat on my couch like so much fish and watched more of the thriller And Soon the Darkenss, starring Pamela Franklin, which I’ll have more to say about after I’ve finished it.  Then it was time to write these here notes.  But before we get to today’s business, how about some Do photographs. Here’s Alby Potts and li’l ol’ me with new haircut.

Here’s Richard Allen and his lovely wife.

Here’s Grant and li’l ol’ me.

Here’s Elizabeth and Richard Sherman and Doug Haverty.

Here’s Doug, Hartley, Kay Cole and Dorathy Haverty.

Here’s Sami, mom Karen, Marshall Harvey, and Richard Allen.

Here’s Mark and Amy and Joanna Erdos.

Finally, here’s Doug and Jimmy Mulligan.

Today, I can sleep in a bit, and then at some point the Darling Daughter will arrive.  As always, we’ll open presents, she’ll eat spaghetti and tuna pasta salad, and then we’ll do what she likes to do – tour her old childhood haunts.  Then she’ll take her leave and I’ll relax and watch stuff and listen to music.

Tomorrow, I can relax all day, and then I’ll head over to the theater for a couple of auditions and then a put-in.  We’ll begin with that, I’ll give a few notes to the cast, and then they’ll do a run-through, which I don’t need to stay for.

Friday, I’ll relax, and then meet Sami and mom for dinner at five-fifteen.  Then we’ll all head over to the theater to see The Man Who Came to Dinner.

Saturday, I’ll relax until it’s time to go to the theater – not sure I’ll stay for the performance after I do the pre-show announcement.  Sunday, I think the Shermans will come to the matinee – if they do, I’ll sit with them for the show.  Then next week is all free as far as I can tell.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in a bit, have a visit with the Darling Daughter, eat, tour, and then watch, listen, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a warm and cozy Do and that the Do is Done.  And let us know what Santa brought you on this Christmas Day.
