THE NON-STOP DAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the music of one Nikolai Kapustin, A Russian composer from Russia and a brilliant pianist who writes a kind of fusion of classical and jazz that is utterly beguiling.  I gather he’s very famous, but I knew nothing and would have continued to know nothing if I hadn’t gotten a CD of Russian piano concertos for another composer I discovered, Alexander Tsafman, who I spoke about the other day and who is also brilliant.  So, one of Kapustin’s concertos, number two, was on this CD.  So, of course I immediately went to the Tube of You to see what else there was – mostly solo piano music or chamber pieces, but I managed to find three more concertos, and they’re every bit as good.  He’s done six and I have all but one and five and I want those NOW.  Other than that, I’m just trying to relax after a non-stop day.

Yesterday was a non-stop day in which I did not stop.  I did get nine hours of sleep, which was very helpful, I got up, did stuff on the computer and prepared for what I knew was going to be a non-stop day, all having to do with the Kritzerland show.  The first part of the afternoon was spent making some corrections on piano tracks, especially on two songs that I wrote.  We got that all done, and all singers now have everything they need, so that’s good.  Then for a grueling four hours I had to do other stuff for the show – I’m being secretive about anything to do with this, so I can’t really tell you about any of that.

Then I started up the motor car and let it run for about fifteen minutes.  It hasn’t been giving me any trouble for a week now, so I think the battery is all charged up and working properly.  I hadn’t eaten all day, and I didn’t finish doing everything until almost seven.  So, the easiest thing was frozen dinners, which I now regret having done.  I first had a Marie Callendar’s thing – chunks of chicken over rice covered in a cheesy sauce with some broccoli.  They always sound like they’ll be great, but alas this was kind of like eating vomit.  I did eat it, though and then I made a Red Baron small pepperoni deep dish thing – just a few bites so very small and calorie-friendly.  I’d really enjoyed the Red Baron pizza I’d made so I figured I was safe with this, but it, too, was not so hot, although I ate it all up, too.  Both added up to well under 1000 calories.  Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the first half of a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Pillow Talk.  It’s quite charming and the chemistry between the three leads is great – Rock, Doris, and Tony.  Add to that the hilarious deadpan of Thelma Ritter and what’s not to like.  The color is glorious, but Universal seems to have removed every trace of grain and that’s especially true of the split-screen opticals, of which there are many.  Those have always been super grainy but here there as smooth as can be.  I’ll finish that up at some point today.

After that, I was trying to get the awful taste of the frozen food out of my mouth, so I made scrambled eggs with a little cream cheese in them for fun and ate that and it was good and VERY low calorie.  Then I had a Klondike Bar, which brought the calorie count to around 1200, which is fine.  Then it was listening to music and then it was time to write these here notes.

Today, I’ll arise when I arise, I do stuff on the computer, I’ll go to the mail place at some point, as a package was delivered yesterday, then I’m treating myself to a super good meal because I deserve it after all the work of yesterday coupled with all the bad food.  I’ve already figured out the meal and have put the order in my Door Dash cart.  And hopefully the jernt will be open on Sunday.  After the meal, then I can watch the rest of Pillow Talk and move on to something else, and then listen and relax.

Tomorrow is our designated Kritzerland rehearsal day – I didn’t really want to spread it out, so everyone will tell me what thirty-minute slot they’d like, and we’ll do it via Zoom or Skype.  I’ll listen to what everone’s doing, give whatever notes I have, and we’ll go from there.  So, that will take up a lot of the day.  Then I can relax.  The rest of the week is all preparing for the big Sunday show and there’s a lot of preparing we still need to do, along with more tests and such.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the Texas Two-Step because today is the birthday of our very own dear reader Jennifer.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader Jennifer.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER JENNIFER!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, arise when I arise, do stuff on the computer, go to the mail place, have a super good meal, finish Pillow Talk, watch something else, and then listen to music and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them.  So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after my non-stop day.
