CONTINUOUS PHLEGM

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish having a discussion with myself that goes something like this: “Myself, why am I so blessed to have continuous phlegm.”  “I don’t know why you are so blessed, but you are.  And stop clearing your damn throat, phlegm-head.”  “Um, myself, that is no way to talk to yourself, or myself, or whoever the HELL you’re talking to.”  It was a wonderful conversation and taught me a lot about why I’m so blessed to have continuous phlegm.  I don’t know if it’s acid reflux that causes this or if it’s an acid reflex or too much cream and milk, although I don’t drink milk or have too much cream, so it is an enigma.  I think some of it is allergy-related and this allergy season is the worst in over a decade.  Part of that is because one day it’s 100 degrees and the next day it’s windy, and then it’s a day like today – a bit chilly.  Mucinex-D definitely helps, but I haven’t been able to buy it because I’ve been taking so much Claritin-D that that’s what I have to get.  You can’t get them both at the same time – you have to wait about two weeks and that’s when I have to re-buy the Claritin.  It’s most annoying.  In any case, here I sit, listening to music, clearing my throat, and having conversations with myself about phlegm.  Continuous Phlegm – that’s the title of my next novel.

Yesterday was certainly a day, Tuesday to be exact, for those who are losing track of time and days.  I did get eight hours of sleep, so that was good, got up, did some work on the computer, ascertained there were no packages or mail to pick up, and then made a show order, which took a bit of juggling but I think it came out fine.  I found the last two ensemble boys for the group number that opens the show, so now we’re fully cast.  Then I decided to try a jernt that I’ve been meaning to try for the past five years.  Fishbone is the name and it’s in Reseda.  It gets rave reviews on the Yelp and since I’d had that terrible meal of Louisiana-style food the day before, I thought I’d just go for it.  I’m a huge fried catfish fan so I ordered that and two sides – potato salad and red beans and rice.  It arrived thirty minutes later, and it was great.  The catfish was perfectly fried and seasoned, and I ate all three pieces of it.  The red beans and rice, once I got used to the taste, as I hadn’t had it in three decades, was really good and so was the potato salad.  I added another rave on Yelp.

After that, I approved more tracks and got them to the singers.  We still have eight to go and I’m hoping most of those will get done today.  Then I’d forgotten completely that there was going to be a Zoom session with some friends, so I did that and couldn’t believe it was already seven-thirty by the time we finished.  So, I immediately sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, since I’ve been on a Polanski kick, I decided to watch Venus in Fur again, since I hadn’t seen it since I got a region B Blu-ray back in 2014.  It’s a two character movie, beautifully directed on one set, with two excellent performances by Emmanuel Seigner (Mrs. Polanski) and Mathieu Amalric, who really is the spitting image of a young Polanski, which gives the film an interesting dynamic, since it’s about the power play between actress and director.  There are times when you think you really are watching Polanski.  It’s adapted from the play by David Ives, which I gather was very funny, which is why it appealed to Polanski.  The film is in French and I think some of the humor is lost in translation, but I enjoyed it just as much the second time and its ninety-six minutes goes by very fast.

After that, I took a drive, since I hadn’t been out of the house all day.  Once home, I began having the conversation with myself about continuous phlegm, and the rest you know.

Today, I’ll arise when I arise, I’ll hopefully approve more tracks, I’ll write commentary, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat (probably Wacky Noodles), and do whatever else needs doing.  Then at some point I’ll watch, listen, take a drive, and relax.

Tomorrow is more of the same, Friday we’ll have Zoom rehearsals for the two numbers with multi-singers, and then it’s more of the same for the weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must for example, arise when I arise, hopefully approve some tracks, write commentary, hopefully pick up packages, eat, watch, listen, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, whilst I continue having a discussion with myself about the continual continuous phlegm.
