VIS-A-VIS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, vis-à-vis yesterday’s traffic report in the notes – I was told last night that the 405 was a parking lot yesterday.  Who are these people and where the HELL are they going?  Nothing is open, for heaven’s sake, other than curbside service and maybe some nail salons.  So, what, everyone can’t wait to get their stupid nails done?  I think people are starting to feel like saps for staying home this long.  But that doesn’t explain where they’re going and what they’re doing.  Thank goodness I didn’t leave the house until ten at night.  And vis-à-vis our June 7 Kritzerland.  June 7 was supposed to be Tony Awards night, but we knew it wasn’t going to happen so were fine with June 7.  Until today, when two major websites announced they’re doing celebrity-laden streaming Tony night stuff.  It never ends.  It reminds me of when all the CD soundtrack labels glutted the market and basically killed the Golden Goose.  Every time you go on the Internet, someone has announced some other streaming live thing that’s not live.  And these people have HUGE money behind them, that’s what’s astonishing.  They get the talent for nothing by making it a benefit.  It’s too much stuff – who has time to view any of it.  But I’m hoping you dear readers and our loyal Kritzerland audience will still tune in – it’s not as much fun to watch it after the fact, it’s fun to be there in the moment.  I am really irritated about these sudden Tony night announcements three weeks prior to that date, all jumping on whatever kind of bandwagon they perceive this to be.  End of small rant and believe me I could have gone on at length and named a few names.

Vis-à-vis yesterday, it was one of those non-stop days of not going but doing, doing, doing (that is three doings).  I was up at eleven-thirty after seven hours of sleep.  I answered e-mails and then I got the second to last videos in, and we got the audio on those mixed into the audio tracks.  The final video didn’t come in until after six but prior to that we did a lot of work on both tracks, or as much as we could without the missing puzzle piece.  I had two burritos of my own making, then I buckled down, Winsocki and did something that took about two hours, but it was good to get it out of the way.  By the time that was finished the final track had come in.  Richard Allen mixed that in, did as much as he could do, and then we began the arduous task of taking seven audio tracks done by separate people in separate locations without a conductor to really guide them and somehow make them all work together.  It was hard work but, in the end, we got it pretty good, just by moving a word or two a few frames, which won’t really affect the visual synch.  The trio was easier but still time consuming.  And then we had to mix everything so that the balances and blends were exactly right.  But we got it done and those audio files were then sent to Hartley Powers, and she’ll match them to the video and hopefully that will all work as it should.  She’s really good at this stuff, though.

By the time all that was done, it was ten o’clock, so I went out for my drive and did about twenty minutes.  Once back home, I made two little frozen pizza things – very small but a nice evening snack.  Then I finally listened to music and relaxed, quite exhausted by the long and intense day.

Vis-à-vis today, I’ll be up by eleven and I’m getting a much-needed haircut at noon, I think.  I’m actually really looking forward to it. Once that’s done, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, then I’m having a food treat day, since I’ve eaten here for three days in a row – and I think that treat will be my beloved spicy chicken over rice from the Cheesecake Factory, unless I decide on my favorite pasta dish from Stanley’s, but I’m kind of feeling the spicy chicken vibe.  After that, I’m sure I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Vis-à-vis tomorrow – now wait just a darn minute – what is all this vis-à-vis malarkey, complete with accent mark?  I haven’t used that expression in forty years and suddenly it shows up like an unwanted hemorrhoid?   An Unwanted Hemorrhoid – that’s the title of my next novel. In any case, tomorrow is a Kritzerland rehearsal day from two to about four-thirty.  I’m sure the weekend will be laundry and a little house cleaning.  I’m thinking of letting she of the Evil Eye come back a week from Saturday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, have a haircut, hopefully pick up packages, eat, watch, listen, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: I don’t think much of today’s film music, but what are your favorite film scores of say the last two decades?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have finished the audio portion of the two group numbers and happy to have had a vis-à-vis with accent mark explosion after forty years.
