NOTES WITH SUBTITLES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it looked for a moment like these here notes would go up very late – our host warned that there was maintenance and that things could be interrupted for a short time.  But it actually turned out that Safari froze – I quit and relaunched and all was well.  So, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the Kalman operetta that elmore recommended, Countess, Maritza, and it’s quite delightful.  It’s that EMI recording, which is on YouTube in its entirety.  I can get the TER highlights thing for about three bucks, so I may get that to hear the children’s chorus thing that’s missing from this recording.  Of course, I have no idea what it’s actually about since it’s in German, but the music is delightfully delightful.  I also found several live performances of the entire operetta as well as a film version from the 1930s that looks interesting – of course, none have subtitles.  Frankly, I think these here notes need subtitles because I have no idea what the HELL they’re about.  And I’m jiggy with that.

Yesterday went by so fast it was barely a day and barely registered.  I got eight hours of sleep – I didn’t get to sleep until five and got up at one.  My throat had a bit of soreness, but I figured that was from the way I slept and it pretty much is gone now, so that’s probably correct.  I did a lot of e-mail responses, I got another video but am still lacking two of the group videos – I was very clear when these were due by, and yet.  I’m still hoping for at least one of them this evening but as midnight nears that’s probably a lost cause.  I made tuna sandwiches again and they were very good.  I had fun with the little mystery thing that’s going on that I can’t really talk about yet, I gave permission for a song of mine to be used in a short animated thing of some sort that Lanny Meyers is working on, and then the day was done, just like that.  And I forgot to go to the Infiniti dealer to get the battery cover things because I didn’t leave the house and the receipt was in the car.  I have to do that today.  And then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on a Warner Archive DVD called Wichita.  I saw Wichita back when it opened in 1955 at the Dome Theater on the Ocean Park boardwalk, a theater I just loved.  I loved the movie, loved their big Cinemascope screen, and because a huge Joel McCrea fan on that very day.  Those who have Benjamin Kritzer can see the crude drawing I made of a movie screen playing Wichita, which I did back in 1955.  I was so happy when this DVD came out, and even happier that it was in scope and even happier that it was in stereo.  I haven’t seen it since, so that’s over a decade now.  I still love it, still love Joel McCrea, and realized how good Vera Miles was in this and other films of that era, and marveled at the wonderful supporting cast, including Edgar Buchanan, Wallace Ford, Peter Graves, Lloyd Bridges, Jack Elam, and others.  I also realized how many westerns Robert Wilke has appeared in – he was in The Lone Ranger movie and I couldn’t remember his name, so when he showed up in Wichita, I looked it up.  You’d know his face instantly.  The transfer isn’t all that, but it’s fine.  It would be so wonderful to have this get a fresh transfer and some color adjustment.  I really can’t say enough about Mr. McCrea, one of the great screen actors.

After that, I took a drive, which is when I saw the receipt for the battery cover and realized I should have gone to pick it up.  This is my point – I need subtitles throughout the day.  After my little drive, I had a bagel for my evening snack and a blueberry crumble thing from the sweets box the Darling Daughter sent.  It was really good.  And that was pretty much the day and evening.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven, and then I’ll pick up the battery cover and get that out of the way.  I have a little adjusting to do on two tracks, so I’ll do that right away so they can go back to the singers.  Hopefully, I’ll have the missing two videos from those folks so we can get that number done, as it’s fairly complicated to get everything synched properly in the group stuff.  I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll do whatever else needs doing, and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is more of the same, and then on Friday we have our multiple Zoom rehearsals.  I have to create all those Zoom invites, which I’ll probably do before going to bed this evening.  I think the weekend can be for relaxing, but I do have to do the garage hunt at some point – I keep procrastinating.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, pick up the battery cover thing, adjust two tracks, get them back to the singers, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll hopefully get the two missing videos, and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall hopefully have dreams with subtitles.
