THE DAY BEFORE I’M OLDER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here we are, together again, the day before I turn a new age. I will no longer be the age I am today as of midnight tonight.  Yes, time marches on and on marches time, inexorably, like a tuna sandwich.  I gotta tell you.  Otherwise, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the last of the Schreker operas on my second go around.  I have eaten much weird food, but still within my calorie count, but I can’t say I wish to eat such a plethora of weird foods again.  The potpourri of foodstuffs included a Marie Callender’s frozen dinner, a healthy choice frozen dinner (both added together were around 770 calories), some popcorn, a couple little candies from the FJL candy box, a few peanuts, and that’s about it.  I do have one bagel left but we’ll see if I feel like eating it after I write these here notes.  Isn’t that an eclectic and weird batch of food to have eaten on a Sunday?  I also listened to a little of Mr. Strauss’s opera, Ariadne auf Naxos, thanks to JohnG’s suggestion, and I liked what I heard of the band and singers and music, so I’ll have to get that one for sure.  What else can I tell you?  Well, I can tell you that we worked on Doug’s playlet and pretty much finalized it.  Marshall Harvey is a pro and very good at what he does, so I knew most of it would be fine and almost all of it was more than fine.  It looks okay for the way in which we had to shoot it and what we had to shoot it with, and I think we only ended up swapping out a couple of shots in one sequence.  Otherwise, it was finessing sound and music and adjusting the framing on a couple of shots.  Part of the problem is I could only see the shots on the tiny little two-inch screen on the camera, so it was hard to tell about certain things, but it was quite easy to make those adjustments and they really helped balance the compositions.  He’d done some clever music editing, since all I gave him were various versions of the main theme of varying lengths, but he had to make those work in terms of timing to the visuals.  We worked for a couple of hours and that was that.  Always in good hands with Marshall.

Yesterday was a nice day.  I got nine hours of sleep, answered e-mails, did a few things, and then it was time to mosey on over to Marshall’s.  We watched the cut straight through and then made our little adjustments.  Once that was done, I came right home, deciding not to stop for food.  Then I ate that sickening and weird potpourri of foodstuffs, did a spot of work on project two, and finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching Il Bidone, which I really liked a lot – quite a depressing film in the end, but a great performance by Broderick Crawford, one of his best, actually, and the Italian actor who dubs him is really good and astonishingly close at times.  The transfer looks fantastic, too.  Maybe this will help the film get a little more love, which it deserves.

I then watched the first twenty minutes of Variety Lights, which Fellini co-directed with Alberto Lattuada.  I’ve always enjoyed it and I’ll have more to say after I’ve finished, but I can say that the transfer is also great and the best it’s ever looked on home video, by miles and miles.

After that, I let Doug see his playlet, and I think he was very pleased.  So, we’re doing a little color correction which I should actually have about an hour after I post these here notes.  I’ll watch it and if it’s fine, that will be the FINAL version and they can grab it out of Dropbox.  The rest you know and you know the rest.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll hopefully proof and do fixes on the final chart for project one, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat something light but amusing – thinking about a salad of some sort – then I’ll work on project two for most of the day, as well as the Kritzerland show.  Then, at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.  And, of course, at midnight I shall be a new age me.

Tomorrow, I shall be a new age me, I’m thinking I’ll have as much of a ME day as I can, but I’ll also work on the Kritzerland show and project two, hopefully hear more orchestrations, but mostly just celebrate the older me by my little ol’ self.  The rest of the week is more of the same as we head towards the Kritzerland holiday show.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Swim, for today is the birthday of our very own beloved dear reader Jane, who I’ve known since she was fifteen years of age.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own beloved dear reader Jane, who I’ve known since she was fifteen years of age.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN BELOVED DEAR READER JANE, WHO I’VE KNOWN SINCE SHE WAS FIFTEEN YEARS OF AGE!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, hopefully proof the last of the charts for project one, hopefully pick up some packages, eat something light but amusing, do work on project two and the Kritzerland show, and then watch, listen, and relax, after which I shall turn a new age.  Today’s topic of discussion: What was your most memorable birthday?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, the day before I’m older.
