THE GRAPES OF WRATH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon.  And whilst writing these here notes I am eating some grapes.  I hope I don’t have any wrath whilst writing these here notes, otherwise we’ll have the grapes of wrath.  Otherwise, I’m listening once again to Franz Schreker’s wonderful opera Irrelohe, which I’m enjoying all over again, after having finished the fifteen Shostakovich string quartets, and four quartets of William Alwyn.  Frankly, I prefer the Alwyn quartets – I’ve heard all but two as of this time.  I am no longer eating the grapes because this batch of grapes was not so hot.  Instead, I’m eating two pieces of taffy.  I must say, I have never seen such intensely personal notes.  Where else on all the Internet can you read that someone is eating two pieces of taffy?  Nowhere, that’s where.  Speaking of taffy, I have now finished the two pieces and must be strong and not eat anymore.  What else can I tell you?  Well, I can tell you that I’m moving on to paragraph two so that I don’t get ahead of myself, order-wise.  And speaking or order, I certainly would love to be going to Jinky’s this fine morning for their yummilicious eggs benedict but alas there is no outdoor dining again. However, I may mosey on over there anyway because if they’ll allow us to sit at the outside tables and if they’ll put an order on a plate rather than a box and give me silverware, that may be the workaround, since they’re still open for takeout.  We shall see.  Otherwise, I have no idea how I’ll kill time for three hours, which is most annoying and irritating at the same time.

Yesterday was okay – neither great nor bad – just somewhere in the middle.  I did get eight hours of sleep, so that was good.  Once up, I answered a lot of e-mails, did a little work on project two, did fixes on a chart and got the final two to the doer of the charts.  I did some Kritzerland show stuff, too, and then I went and picked up a package, since I got a notification that one had been delivered.  When they gave it to me, I asked specifically if that was the only package and they said yes.  Well, they were wrong, of course – the actual package that I’d gotten notified about was there – what they gave me was a different package, an early birthday present from our very own FJL and his ever-lovin’ Skip.  I called the mail place and told them of my irritation.  Their excuse was it hadn’t been scanned in yet, and my response was that if I ask specifically about a package, go see if it came in – the fact is, it had been sitting there for over two hours.  So, I didn’t get that package and will have to get it today.

Once home, I rustled up a batch of Wacky Noodles, less than usual, and then ate them all up – they were very good.  I tried a couple of pieces of the Fred and Skip candy they’d sent, and they were very small and very good.  Then I did some work on the computer, listened to some music, had some telephonic conversations, got word that we’ll be able to shoot the missing close-up, so that’s good, got a good report from editor Marshall Harvey that he’s done the first four (of nine) scenes for Doug’s playlet and said it’s looking good and that he’s putting in the music as he goes.  We did the fixes on the chart and I got that fixed version to Richard Allen. And that was really about it until I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching Nights of Cabiria.  I know it’s a beloved Fellini, but it’s never been my favorite.  I like it fine and the transfer is very nice after the first ten minutes, which are mostly opticals, and the cast is wonderful.  It’s fun to watch and look for the stuff they used for the musical version, Sweet Charity.  Anyway, I enjoyed it, certainly.  Next up will be Variety Lights, the first film Fellini made, albeit as co-director.  I’ve always thought it would make a wonderful and fun musical – and ultimately, I kind of made that happen, in my first mystery novel, Writer’s Block, where the musical within the book is kind of fashioned after Variety Lights. Then I’ll move on to Il Bidone, a film I’ve only seen once.  After that, Juliet of the Spirits, which I’ve never cared for – we’ll see if that’s changed – and from then on I don’t love any of his films, so I’ll be interested to see them again and see if I feel differently.  Then I shaved so I wouldn’t have to get up super early, did some dishes, and the rest you know.

Today, I’ll be up at eight-thirty, and gone by nine or so. I’ll pick up the package I should have been given yesterday, and then I’ll probably come home for a little while, after which I’ll mosey on over to the theater to shoot the close-up.  Once we’re all set up for the shot, it really shouldn’t take more than two minutes to get it, then we’ll get that to Marshall, and he’ll have it all.

After that, I’m not sure what will be. If I haven’t had eggs benedict, then I’ll figure out what I want for food, I’ll come home, do some work on project two, do some Kritzerland show stuff, as we’re now just about a week away, and then at some point, I’ll relax, watch, and listen.

Tomorrow will be more of the same, and I may be able to see the first cut of Doug’s playlet, and then next week is very busy with locking the cut of Doug’s playlet, getting everything ready to do the Kritzerland show, getting the final two charts proofed and fixed and to Richard Allen, hopefully getting more orchestrations for same, working on project two, and doing whatever else needs doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up at eight-thirty, gone by nine, see what’s what over at Jinky’s, hopefully pick up packages, shoot the missing close-up, eat, work on project two, do Kritzerland show stuff, and then watch, listen, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite pasta dishes to make in your very own home by your very own self?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having had to throw out the grapes of wrath.
