THE ARRIVAL OF THE BOOKS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I shan’t rant not because I can’t rant but because I shan’t, because yesterday’s rant was enough for the week. Instead, I’m sitting here like so much fish, listening to more Previn – it’s so interesting this box – there are performances that are quite average and there are performances that are quite spectacular. He was erratic in that way, but what’s good is cherce. And I always like hearing repertoire I’m not all that familiar with and there’s certainly some of that in this set. I will say that the London Symphony Orchestra is terrific. During the day and evening, we’ve had us some Shostakovich and Prokofiev (he’s good with the Russians), some Britten (ditto the British), some Mozart (not so good), a great Bartok second violin concerto, and a decent The Planets, which I’m surprised wasn’t better than it was. I also watched a Blu and Ray of a ballet, something called Swan Lake, from the Royal Ballet, an Anthony Dowell with choreography after the original by Petipa and Ivanov. I watched all of act one and about ten minutes of act two and am enjoying it very much. So many famous themes in the Tchaikovsky music. The choreography is excellent, and the cast seems fine. The sets and costumes are quite lush and opulent, not necessarily in that order. I’ll finish it up this evening.

Yesterday was a nice enough day. I got a tiny bit over eight hours of sleep. I answered e-mails, was notified that the boxes of books had arrived, so I got myself together (no mean feat) and moseyed on over to the mail place to retrieve them. Once retrieved, I came right back home. The telephonic device was ringing, and it was the person I was having a meeting with, the one that was pushed to four o’clock. Apparently, it had been pushed to twelve-thirty at some point after I went to bed, so I didn’t see it. So, we’ve rescheduled for three-thirty today. Then we auditioned an actress at two for this little play – she was very good, but I think she thought this was a two or three night run rather than the six weeks it actually is. I hope she can do it, but I fear she won’t be able to make that kind of commitment. We shall see.

Then I made two tuna sandwiches on Keto rye bread and ate them. They hit the spot, certainly, and other than the Keto rye feeling like you’re chewing rubber, I enjoyed it. Then I began the task of signing the books. I got that done and boxed them up to take to the storage place today so the helper’s mom can get them shipped out, hopefully sooner than later rather than later than sooner. After that, I listened to some music, got the second to last video in, so there’s just one to go and we probably won’t have it until Sunday. If it’s any later than that, it probably won’t make the show because it puts us in a bind, timewise. We shall see. Of course, I always hope things will arrive as promised. It’s going to be a fun show, I think.

Then I watched the first act of Swan Lake. After that, I had to sit in on a Zoom casting session, which was brief, but required two separate visits to Zoom, which kind of split up my evening in a way I wasn’t crazy about. Then I watched a bit of act two of Swan Lake, and then I had to write four blurbs for our release announcement this week – it’s stuff you dear readers probably have already ordered, i.e. the Blu-ray, the CD, the sheet music folio, or Some Days Are Murder. If you didn’t order any of those things, they’ll all be available and the Tonight’s the Night stuff, if ordered together, can save you some dough. And then it was back to music listening and relaxing.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven. After doing whatever needs doing here, I’ll mosey on over to the new storage place to leave the books there, find a box of Follies, and get a few things I accidentally left there. Then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat something of my own concocting, and then we have our rescheduled three-thirty meeting. After that, I have to sit in the callbacks session on Zoom to hear two more people read. After that, I’ll finish up Swan Lake, which I have figured out is something about a swan and a lake, and then I’ll just listen and relax.

Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye comes, so I’ll probably go somewhere for a lite breakfast of some sort. Then I’m getting a haircut, and then I hope we can announce the new stuff and hopefully get some orders. Saturday can now be a ME day unless I go out and grab a bite with a friend, which I very well may do. Sunday is more of the same and hopefully we’ll have the final video by then. Then next week is very busy and a little crazy.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, do whatever needs doing, go to the new storage place, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, have a meeting, sit in on some callbacks, and then finally I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could have your dream meal, what it would consist of, from start to finish? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had the arrival of the books.
