THE POLAR OPPOSITE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, continuing the Eugene Ormandy journey of his monophonic recordings for Columbia. So much great stuff. Recently, we had a really fun English language Die Fledermaus, a great Prokofiev sixth symphony, and now we’re having Tchaikovsky’s fifth symphony. We’re now in the tape years, so the sound quality is even better, although the disc years sounded pretty great. It’s amazing to think how well these tapes have been stored for seventy years now. It’s so obvious why his recordings were best sellers and why he was so beloved and popular. His versions of everything were just so accessible to the regular listener and, as I’ve said, he probably introduced classical music to thousands upon thousands of listeners via his recordings. I’ve now uploaded forty-eight CDs (I nuke stuff that I won’t listen to again – some Beethoven, all Mozart, all Haydn – and I’m currently on CD 37. So, many, many albums to go and I will listen, in full, to each and every one of them, oh, yes, I will listen in full to each and every one of them. I had neither time nor inclination to watch anything, so it’s been all music all evening and I’m jiggy with that.

And it must be mentioned that on May 5, 1975 we began shooting The First Nudie Musical, so happy anniversary to The First Nudie Musical – you are now forty-six years old. And I will have some interesting news to share very soon.

As to yesterday, it was the polar opposite of the day before, a rather pleasant day all around. I got eight hours of sleep – that was pleasant. Once up, I answered e-mails then moseyed on over to the mail place where, thankfully, the important envelope was waiting for me. I went directly to the bank to cash it and got right in and right to the big boy ATM inside – the whole thing took five minutes. Then I walked down to Bank of America and thankfully there was only one person in line, so I was in and out of there in five minutes, too. That was most pleasant. Then I came home and did a few things, did the layout of a song with Richard Allen, and then I moseyed on over to the new storage place and met the helper’s mom. I showed her how everything worked and where the locker was, and she seemed very pleased at how organized it was. I think we’ll probably find out as we go that we missed getting some boxes in there. She pulled CDs she needed and seemed to find them easily – but two she needed weren’t there. So, I took her to the unit that is jam-packed with boxes and thankfully one of the titles was right in front. The other one will require me and a couple of others to move the sixty boxes that came in late and totally screwed up getting in there, to the downstairs unit, which is fairly empty. Once we do that, I’ll be able to find the other box, which is a C box and would be all the way to the rear. So, I think all that will work out. And it’s much closer for her.

Then I came home, showered, and got ready for dinner. I met up with Marshall and a nice Indiegogo contributor who got a lot of stuff, which I had all in one lovely box. We had a fine dining experience at the Coral Café, and it was so nice to sit in a restaurant gabbing like it used to be before the world went mad. Stories were told, food was consumed, and it was just a wonderful time. The Indiegogo fellow was super nice, and the food was excellent. I had my salad consisting of two scoops of chicken salad and one scoop of egg salad, with some ranch dressing. The scoops alone were quite filling, and I didn’t end up eating much of the salad bits at all, and I took it unusually easy on the ranch dressing.

I bought a lemon meringue pie and delivered it to the Havertys. Doug’s ever-lovin’ Dorathy has had her share of health issues, but now she’s truly on the mend and I thought they could use a treat and that pie is their favorite. Then I came home and began listening to music, responding to e-mails, having a nice telephonic conversation, then I sent off the Tonight’s the Night CD notes and credits, so that can get done now. Then I just relaxed. I’m still quite exhausted and a bit sore from The Ordeal.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll get singers more tracks, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll have a Zoom rehearsal with a singer, I’ll eat, and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax because that’s what I need to do.

The rest of the week is getting all the rest of the Kritzerland show stuff done so everyone can then shoot their videos. I’m not sure what the weekend holds, but I intend to have one nice meal out.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the old-fashioned waltz, for today is the birthday of our very own dear reader George. So, let’s give a big haineshisway birthday cheer to our very own dear reader George. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER GEORGE!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, get singers tracks, have a Zoom rehearsal, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a day that was the polar opposite than the previous day.
