YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW, NOT NECESSARILY IN THAT ORDER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, why am I so averse to Haydn? Why am I equally averse to Liszt? Wouldn’t Liszt be pissed at this averseness? Wouldn’t Haydn be ridin’ me about this averseness. At least, with Beethoven and Mozart, occasionally I can get with a few of their pieces. Well, a funny thing happened on the way to the Liszt and Haydn, thanks to Mr. Ormandy. I found a Haydn symphony I kind of liked – his symphony 45. And thanks to Ormandy, for the first time ever I actually enjoyed a Liszt piano concerto, his concerto number one. So, that was fun. I heard quite a few albums in the Ormandy set, the best of which was his wonderful recording of Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au Boucher, with narration by Miss Vera Zorina. Did you know that Miss Vera Zorina was married to the legendary record producer, Goddard Lieberson? I didn’t. What a fine monophonic recording it was/is. And right now, we have Beethoven’s piano concerto three, which was his third piano concerto, so wasn’t it clever for him to have called it Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 3. I never had time to watch a motion picture, so it’s really been music for most of the day and evening. Even when I wasn’t listening, I was getting tracks, making adjustments, and routining the final couple we still have to do. There’s only one song left to choose and that will get done today. Did you know what sometimes gets confusing? What sometimes gets confusing is that I write these notes prior to midnight and post them right after midnight on a new day. So, for example, when I just wrote that the final choice would get done, I wrote tomorrow instead of today because today is still yesterday and therefore tomorrow would have been correct save for the notes will post tomorrow, which will then be today. What the HELL am I talking about? Who can keep this stuff straight, or even crooked? Well, all I know is it’s yesterday, today, and tomorrow, not necessarily in that order.

Yesterday was a funny old day. I got nine hours of sleep, got up, answered a whole slew of e-mails. I got some tracks, checked them out, and sent them on to their respective singers. I also routined two more songs so those can get done. The idea is they’ll all be done tomorrow, which will shortly be today so that we can rehearse tomorrow, not meaning today, but tomorrow after the notes are posted – that way we can have our three scheduled Zoom rehearsals. After that, I ascertained that there was no mail important enough to drive to the mail place (just a couple of small envelopes), so I ordered my chopped salad from Stanley’s with a Postmates coupon. That arrived about twenty minutes later and it was excellent. Then, whilst listening to music, namely Ormandy, I did some Indiegogo organizing so that we can begin to get some of the stuff shipped out. By that time, the day was done, and then I had what must have been a ninety-minute telephonic conversation – had my brain picked, answered some questions, and caught up with someone I hadn’t spoken to in a year due to the pandemic. That was fun.

It was then too late to watch a motion picture, so it was back to music and doing a few things on the computer. I took a break, went to Gelson’s, got a tiny bit of lobster salad and an avocado, and ate the lobster salad with a small slice of the avocado – very good. I also had a few assorted nuts – cashews, pistachios, and almonds – I call those nuts Larry, Moe, and Curly. Then it was back to music.

Today, which is still yesterday, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll hopefully get the final two tracks so I can get them to the singers, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages (if all goes according to Hoyle, I’ll at least have the softcover test book), IF the test book does come I may be able to place my book order, which would be good, and then I’m supping with our very own Robert Yacko and he’ll get all his Indiegogo stuff save for the Tonight’s the Night Blu-ray. After that, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I’ll be up early thanks to the arrival of she of the Evil Eye, I’ll have an early breakfast somewhere, and then I’ll do a few other things, after which I’ll come home. Then we have our three count them three Zoom rehearsals. I’m not certain what’s happening on Sunday but whatever it is it won’t be much. Then next week is all Kritzerland show stuff – we’ll start getting videos in and I have to make a show order and then write my commentary. I’m hoping I can get a couple of folks back to the new storage facility to rearrange the excess CD boxes so that I can actually find things – that really shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours, and then I’ll even try going through my personal stuff to see what’s what and maybe start throwing stuff that’s two decades old, files from both Varese and that other label that I don’t need to hold onto. Just to lighten the load a little. Also, I have a lot of magazines and why on Earth am I keeping them? I have no intention of reading them so it seems rather silly. I can also bring two or three boxes from the garage here to put in with my personal stuff.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, hopefully get the final two tracks, hopefully pick up some packages, which will hopefully include the new book, maybe place a book order, sup with Robert Yacko, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, another 130 Ormandy CDs. Blu-ray, The Vanishing, the original Dutch film, not the horrid remake. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after posting what I wrote yesterday today so that today will be today rather than yesterday and tomorrow won’t be today but really tomorrow.
