A SUNDAE ON A SATURDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry once again, for I have just returned from seeing the playlet (only watched ours – went very well – lots and lots of big laughs) and a visit to the Coral Café with one of our actresses and Doug Haverty. I’d only eaten an omelet twelve hours earlier so I figured I could do a 600-calorie meal, which I did – a hot fudge sundae – it was most wonderful and a fine meal. So, I came in around 1200 calories for the day. And whilst I am sitting here like so much fish, diving into the notes, I’m listening to George Szell do Stravinsky’s The Firebird, an excellent performance. Earlier, I watched the Red Riding trilogy of movies – 1974, 1980, 1983 – based on the quartet of novels by David Peace – 1974, 1977, 1980, 1983 – they left out half of 1977 and consolidated the other half with 1980. I saw these when the Blu-ray came out eleven years ago – sure doesn’t seem that long ago, but I just looked it up. I really enjoyed these the first time around, even though the thick Yorkshire accents made the dialogue hard to understand. This time, I turned the subtitles on and that made things much easier. The casting is really superb for all three films. They cover different events but all three are interrelated and the third ties everything up nicely. I didn’t realize that the star of the first film was Andrew Garfield – when I watched this, The Social Network hadn’t come out yet. Rebecca Hall is also in it, as is Jim Carter (from Downton Abbey – also Michelle Dockery from the same show), but my favorite performance is the lead in the second movie, Paddy Consodine. He’s done tons of movies, not a one of which I’ve seen. He’s really good with a kind of a Dirk Bogarde vibe. This is a very dark three-film series and it’s not a load of fun, but the stories are compelling and then ending is satisfying. Each film has a different director and shooting style, which works very well. The first film was shot in Super 16mm and is in the 1.78 ratio. The second film was shot in Techniscope (2.35 and a two-perf process), and the third film was shot digitally. If you like mesmerizing crime shows, I can certainly recommend this highly, and the Blu-ray transfers are excellent.

Yesterday, I was up early, she of the Evil Eye arrived and I beat a hasty retreat to Hugo’s, where I had my bacon and cheddar omelet and side Caesar – the irony being that that was a total Keto-friendly meal, even though I’m not longer a Keto. It was very good. Then I came home and answered e-mails, caught up on forwarding orders, did a few things on the computer, and then watched all three Red Riding films – five hours in all.

Then it was time to mosey on over to the theater. I arrived at intermission, and it was very nice-sized house, so that was good. Our playlet opens act two and it went well, had big laughs, and the two ladies were terrific. Then I chatted with folks outside the theater while the other two plays finished up. I knew several people in the audience, so gabbed a bit with them. Then one of our actresses, Doug, and I went to the Coral Café. I hadn’t eaten for twelve hours and since I’d had around six hundred calories earlier, I figured I could do another 600 and so I had a hot fudge sundae – I’d checked the calorie count for the size they do, and it was around 550. It was really good. We had fun chatting and were there for around ninety minutes or thereabouts.

Then I came home, getting red lights every step of the way. I hate when that happens, don’t you? The rest you know.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, and then it’s a ME day, although I’ll choose some songs along the way. I may make it a low-calorie hot dog day, or I might try something fun from somewhere. We shall see. I’m sure I’ll watch, listen, and relax along the way, just because I can.

This week will be very busy – we’ll start doing the fixes for Nothing in Common, I’ll finish choosing songs, and I should have the Tonight’s the Night Blu-rays and sheet music by Tuesday. Not sure when the CDs will be ready, however. Hopefully not too long after, but we’ll definitely ship all the solo Indiegogo orders along with the website orders, just to get those on their way. Of course, we’re heading into a new month, too.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, have a ME day, choose more songs, I’ll eat, and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax, not necessarily in that order. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a fine dining experience with a hot fudge sundae on a Saturday.
