ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for my artificial intelligence tells me that she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and I need some semblance of a decent night’s sleep, which I prefer to an indecent night’s sleep, and who wouldn’t? And so, I am sitting her like so much fish and my artificial intelligence is telling me that I’m listening to John Williams’ wonderful score to the motion picture Artificial Intelligence, aka A.I. For me, it’s his last truly great score. I’ve enjoyed others but didn’t find them great and I’ve really not enjoyed others that I found not interesting at all. Prior to that, I listened to Blade Runner – not the soundtrack but an orchestral version, which was the only recording of that music for many, many years. The conductor is Jack Elliott with the New American Orchestra augmented with some pretty great guests. The orchestrations are by Partick Williams, Eddie Karam, and Angela Morley. I bought the LP when it came out and played it a lot. Then I got the CD when IT came out, played it once, and haven’t heard it since, so it’s been about thirty years, I’d guess. I enjoyed it still. Prior to that, I attempted to listen to the soundtrack of Terms of Endearment but shut it off instantly because there’s tons of dialogue marring almost every track. The shocker is that the composer produced this abomination. It’s moronic to have dialogue on a soundtrack release. We want to hear, I don’t know, call me crazy – the music. A label did release the film score and I’m not sure I ever got it and now it’s out of print – I’ll hunt for it today and see if I did or not. And prior to that, I tried to watch a motion picture entitled The Night of the Hunter, the Criterion Blu and Ray. It’s a masterpiece and one of my favorite movies and a completely unique film – Charles Laughton’s only film as a director. But I was too tired and kept dozing off, so I’ll start over and watch it this evening, probably.

Yesterday was actually a good day. I only got about six hours of sleep, got up, and had to get ready for the morning meeting at eleven, which was very good. That lasted until twelve-thirty or thereabouts, then I finally answered e-mails and texts and stuff, then joined Robert Yacko for our weekly meal at Vitello’s. I’d been told the check for the Kritzerland show would be ready and I asked for it not to be mailed as I’d pick it up when I was there for food. Of course, that information was not passed along despite a reminder e-mail this morning and they’d already mailed it. It’s only traveling a mile, so we’ll see how long it takes to arrive. I’m hoping for today. I decided to have the pepperoni pizza – I’ve enjoyed it there before. This wasn’t quite as good as it’s been – smaller pepperoni, which a lot of jernts seem to favor these days – but I enjoyed it and ate all of it. It was eight slices, but they were small, maybe half the size of a normal slice, so it was probably really like eating four or five slices, which is fine. It also didn’t have a ton of cheese on it, which can really add to the calorie count. And that’s all I ate for the entire day and evening.

We had fun, discussed this new project we’ll be doing next year that will involve some new kinds of Kritzerland shows that would alternate with our regular shows, and then I came right home afterwards. Once home, I had a lot o’ stuff to catch up on. The helper didn’t get the CDs today as she couldn’t fit all ten boxes in her vehicle, so she’ll get them Monday morning first thing with a different vehicle, and she knows they have to all get shipped out within a couple of days. Then I tried to watch the movie, then I began listening to music.

Today, I’ll be up by eight-thirty and since I don’t have to go to storage now, I’ll eat a breakfast somewhere and do stuff until she of the Evil Eye is gone and I can have the home environment to my very own self. Then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, do some serious work on the Group Rep cabaret show and continue casting the Kritzerland anniversary show. I’ll have some kind of light snack in the evening, perhaps some fruit or something healthy like that, and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is more of the same – mostly planning the Group Rep cabaret, then in the evening I’m supping and seeing Linda Purl’s cabaret show, which I’m looking forward to. Then this week is very busy with shipping out a LOT of CDs, announcing our two new releases, and there are some meetings and meals and a whole lot of other stuff that will need attending to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight-thirty, have some kind of breakfast at some kind of restaurant, do stuff, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, work on the Group Rep cabaret and the Kritzerland anniversary show, have a snack, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite films of Mr. Robert Mitchum, Miss Shirley MacLaine, and Miss Debra Winger? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where my artificial intelligence tells me that perhaps I shall dream of having actual intelligence.
